A Charlottesville institution since I went to UVA in the 80s. A must if you're in town. Try the foot long hot dog with chili & onions. The Greek salad is also excellent. I would have given it 5 stars but they don't take credit cards. I had to use an expensive ATM to get the money I need it for my meal. Make sure you have cash with you. Some of the Charlottesville institutions have been closing down recently. E.g. Little John's. Support this iconic spot.
I tried this place on the recommendation of coworkers, as my family is from out of town. Let me say that I am so glad we did. The food was fresh and delicious, and the service was terrific and very attentive. I want to point out three things if you have never been before; 1.)They only take cash, but they have an ATM in the building if you need it. 2.) They serve their breakfast menu all day. 3.) There's lots of parking on the side and at the back of the building :)
They have been a staple in my life. After Little League games we would get treated to a foot-long. Great childhood memories that I now pass on to my kids. Oh, and remember to bring cash no CCs accepted. When you step in the door you are taken back a few decades and we'll things were a little more simple then. Go on by and have foot-long, and I bet it becomes a regular for your family too.
The $5 chili dog was nothing more than a bunch of minced onions not to mention the scam they have going on with their ATM machine in the back no debit or credit card accepted beware of the 275 cost to use your card like who carries cash anymore
Check your bill..Adorable atmosphere, classic diner menu, tasty burgers. .Our bill was several dollars over, but the place was busy and I didn’t want to take the extra time to correct it so I just paid it. Then same thing the last two times we were there, Just a few dollars each-time, I didn’t want to be nit-picky so I let it slide.Cash Only and handwritten checks so maybe just old fashioned arithmetic errors, but it seems to happen pretty consistently.
My boyfriend and I went here for the first time! The food coming out was very quick and they were so sweet! The menu was diverse so choosing what to eat was hard! We even got free ice cream at the end! Also there chocolate pie was so GOOD! Definitely would go back! (:

Very layer back small town burger shack. Kind of reminded me of the Stewart Rootbeer stand from when I was a kid. Very inexpensive too which is always nice.
Didn't like the chili on the hot dogs, too hot not much taste! Don't think I will go back, drink was all ice !
The sprite was wonderful but the food made me wish I would've went somewhere else
