very disappointing. not too busy for thursday night in august. sat immediately. noticed the fries were cold on everyone’s plate and received another serving that was just piled on top of original serving. then the burger was barely edible it was so overcooked. i understand getting decent wait staff is a challenge, but wow. i stiil left them 20%. if i go back, i will be more outspoken about getting decent food and providing basic service…. and the air conditioning barely worked…

Never disappointed when I go to Citizen. The food and service are always amazing, and there are plenty of options.I sat at the bar last night to grab a burger & beer. The place was crazy busy, but you wouldn’t know that by the bar service. They were fast, attentive & personable to everyone. It’s worth the trip to the Downtown Mall just to eat here.

My wife and I enjoyed a 4-day trip to Charlottesville and discovered Citizen Burger Bar. It was so good that we visited three times! The staff was super friendly, they had a great selection of beers, and the burgers were out of this world amazing! This is how burgers should be made! Whenever we return to Charlottesville this will be our first stop. Kudos to all the staff for being so amazingly friendly and helpful.

First time experience was awesome. Great customer service, Great choice of beer and liquor, And the burgers are spot on. One on the best tasting burgers I've had in a while. Will definitely going there again.

Everything you would want an expect from a burger bar. Fresh ingredients, plenty of options to customize, lots of choices for vegans & vegetarians, lots of local craft beer, and cocktails as well. Excellent place with great service. 10/10

One of my favorite restaurants in Charlottesville. I don't care if it's just some suds and their amazing onion rings, or a masterpiece custom burger...I have literally never had a single bite or sip in CB that's anything less than awesome!!!

I went to Citizen Burger for the first time, and had a terrible experience. First of all the lightening is terrible, its way too dark inside. We only saw our waitress about 3 times. I had to get up and find the manger just to get some napkins, silverware, oh and my daughter's side salad that was never delivered to her. No one check on our table one time. Each time I had to go looking for someone, even for drink refills. The manager was not apologetic and very unprofessional in the way she handled things. I will never ever go back again!!

Grass fed beef 1/2 pound burger was great. Great choices of local sourced cheese and local, fresh buns. Great service as well.

Great food, good service, good value! Dining option outdoors. yeah! Fabulous burgers and fries; beet salad is awesome! Indoor dining is a bit noisy; but, that's because the food is awesome- it is busy!

This was the second and last time I have given them a chance. Admittedly, both were take-away, so things may be better when you are there. But: --burger was ordered pink, it came overcooked and dry --burger was already cold and not even properly wrapped (which is meant to preserve heat) -wrapper was plain foil, did not help with heat retention -when you order custom burger, it does not tell you there are no fries!!!! it's not even an extra field for you to add, so you don't know it, until you arrive there and see no fries with the burger As I did not know that and assumed that the burgers came with fries, and as I arrived early, I asked them if they could make sure the fries had no salt. Sure, the hostess cheerily told me, "I can take care of that" and she went to the back, I thought to take care of it. Instead of telling me I had no fries, she disappeared. When the burger appeared 15 min later, there were no fries at all! And the burger was already cooling. The guy kindly went and got some for me and no cost. By the time I was eating however (and I ate in the car round the corner so that the food did not cool even more), the burger was cold and dry. I then recalled I had a frustrating experience the first time too. So, now I have to find another burger joint. The best one in town, Zinburger, was closed in the pandemic, nothing comes close. We understand things are hard, but the place was packed and it seems this is a common pattern.
