It’s not often you find a place with the perfect mix of atmosphere, menu and service. My husband and I happen to stop by Cville on our way from NC to PA (home), and we were fortunate to find this place to get dinner. Our server Alexa was INCREDIBLE.. kind, attentive and engaging! I had the trout and my husband had the lamb.. both perfectly cooked and seasoned. We honestly couldn’t have asked for a better experience!
Visited Charlottesville as part of a birthday road trip. We shared the Charcuterie Board as a starter. Yum. For main course we had Steak Frites and Duck Confit. Both excellent. For dessert Sorbet and Macarons, equally good. All washed down with some lovely red wine and a gin. Attentive staff. Our server was professional and seemed knowledgeable as was the bartender. Good selection of gins!! Excellent service and definitely recommend as a treat for a special occasion as not cheap, but worth it!
Alexa and Will were amazing!! Thanks for a lovely dinner!
My husband & I came here for dinner and ordered the Fromage as an appetizer - which was quite good, though on the small side for $15 - and steak frites for our entrees. The fries were good and the steak just okay - lacked flavor. We ordered a g&t to have with our appetizer and were going to order wine with our entrees but the waitress never returned (kitchen dropped off our meal and then waitress showed up after we had finished). It was an okay experience but I think there are better options.
My wife and I visited this evening and were both very impressed. The hostess and our waitress were exceptionally nice, the food was amazing and we loved the atmosphere. We will definitely come back to visit at some point.
Accidentally ended up here on a cold November Saturday night with friends. Didn't realize it was one of the top rated restaurants around and it blew us away! Absolutely fantastic food, every course was delicious.
Food - 5Atmosphere - 5Service - 5Value - 4Brasserie Saison carefully crafts a seasonal menu, for their entrées and their cocktails. Everything was phenomenal, particularly the cranberry gastrique with the spices squash and lentils. The cocktails had a delightful autumnal aroma. The atmosphere is quaint outside and intimate inside. While the portions are a bit small, lowering the value score, they make up for it with perfect marks in service, atmosphere, and food. I’ve been several times and can’t wait to come again.
It would be better described as French inspired, rather than a name that suggests it is a French restaurant. The food is fine- the coq-au-vin special was the best of our three entrees (my son loved it)- but I think the expectation I had for the cassoulet (traditional French version), fell short. I expected some creativity because it had “pork confit” instead of duck (and duck sausage), but the pork was crispy on the outside and somewhat dry on the inside. I expected a tender piece of pork, similar to the traditional duck confit. The flavor of the cassoulet, however, was excellent. We also enjoyed the charcuterie, especially the chicken liver mousse. We were not sure how that would compared to traditional goose or duck liver, but we were pleasantly surprised. My husband thought the spices on the steak were strange and didn’t seem to pair well with the meat. We heard that they were going through a change of ownership and the new owners had a relationship with a local winery, Ashton Wines, and the Tradition wine was outstanding. The pumpkin gelato was tasty, but it did not have the creaminess of an excellent gelato.
Disappointing meal... onion tart was too salty and served chilly rather than room temperature or warm. The crispy scallops with root vegetables were sitting in a broth rather than a vegetable ragu and it was cold and tasteless. Waiter was great and service was very good. Hostess happily got a mask for the other person in the party who didn't have one. Room smelled musty. The steak tartar and steak frites were good. May try again another time.
This place had a wonderful menu, enjoyed the steak fries, the mussels were wonderful! Substantial portions, great wine list and cocktails. We enjoyed dining outside!
