So, we went as a lunch group and only discovered this place due to lack of outside seating elsewhere but oh boy, am I impressed!! Great food, big portion sizes and even good service- quite hard to get all right and this place did it! Everyone's food looked great and tasty. We ordered Bento boxes, Shrimp tempura, The Bomb rolls, puster balls and some other items and all were great!! Will definitely return to try some other things on the menu. Hope it stays this good!
This place was great! The service was very friendly and the food was delicious. Our soup and salad that came with our meals was a perfect starter, and our entrees came out quickly and were very hot. I tried the Shrimp Udon Noodle stir fried and it was perfect. My partner ordered the Teriyaki Chicken Hibachi and received a very large portion of chicken, fried rice, and some fresh vegetables which both were very good. The presentation was also very lovely. We also ordered a Rainbow Roll and a Black Dragon Roll. I was amazed at how fresh the fish was and how crunchy the shrimp tempura was. We had a great experience here and will be returning!
Sushi is not rolled rice, it’s the real deal forreal, Neil! Wife got kastu don and it came out exactly how It should with the quality presentation. I’ll admit that the miso soup is a little watery but some people might like it that way. I also got the yakisoba and it was quite good… but not enough of a yaki feel to it… more like oily wok noodles. Overall - excellent experience.. good sake and filled to the brim.We usually go to Wasabis in Roanoke for quality sushi, but Ocean Samurai steals the show now, with possible even better sushi, better fried dishes, and better sake. Just gotta step up their miso game.Blacksburg should be proud.
Nice place, nice people. My son, daughter in law and I went for dinner. We had some appetizers, tempura Shrimp, spring rolls, beef roll, and shrimp balls. The tempura shrimp was great, but everything else was a bit over cooked.Then I had Coconut shrimp tempura, and they both had sushi. Everything was more or less good. The coconut shrimp was done with very thick batter, very cakey. The rest of the tempura vegetables were mostly stuck together and also overcooked. The sushi was amazing! Very nice, pretty, and delicious. Gorgeous presentation. Service was great, everyone was very nice.

We went to Ocean Samurai for the first time on the evening before Thanksgiving. My wife, sons and I had been to Sake House many times over the year and looked forward to trying out the new restaurant, and this was our big sushi night out. We were not disappointed. Walking in the door we were greeted and seated immediately. We noticed that they were busy with about half of their tables occupied. Although we were worried they seemed perhaps a little under-staffed, it never showed. The service was perfect, and the food was wonderful, from the tempura veggies, to the nigiri, sashimi and rolls, to the mochi and tempura fried ice cream (which seemed home-battered and was really good). I can’t wait to go back.
Excellent, authentic Japanese food! I was pleasantly surprised to find this place in Blacksburg. The food is great and portion size appropriate.
We ordered takeout from Ocean Samurai and loved it! Our favorite is Hokie, Big Easy, and Ocean Sam roll. We are really happy with their sushi rolls and their ginger dressing. Great location with free parking spaces. We will definitely be back!
