A local and even a regional gem, with some of the best sushi to be found in the DC area. The restaurant closed to in person dining during the pandemic, but is open again. The aburri salmon nigiri sushi is definitely worth trying, and you may not find it easily elsewhere.
I tasted Sushi everywhere in the world including Japan during my time in the military. If you are looking for number #1 sushi place in DMV, stop searching and eat here today!I will never go to another sushi place in the dmv again! I have tried all the fancy sushi restaurants in the dmv and it doesn’t compare to sushi-zen.Many Sushi shops in America are owned by Chinese or Korean owners, this is the only and rarest sushi shop that is own by a Japanese owner with traditional Japanese heritage. The food and value offered here is such a gem, I recorded a video of the food I ate on instagram as well :)
The food at Sushi-Zen is always fantastic! So fresh, hot and timely! And I have become accustomed to taking a large container of their wonderful salad dressing home with me to enjoy. Wish I had the recipe! :)
Best sushi we’ve had in a LONG time! Just moved to Arlington after living in DC for over 10 years. We are frequent sushi eaters and decided to order sushi for delivery for our 2nd night in the new home and tried Sushi-Zen. Wow. We were impressed! Every roll was fresh, unique, and the effect blend of simple fresh sushi with unique flavors. This is by far my new favorite sushi place.
As patrons of Sushi-Zen for 30+ years, we always look forward to dining at Sushi-Zen and/or take out. Sadly, since March 2020, the Covid-19 pandemic has limited our patronage to take-out only. Last nite (3/21), we had another 'take-out' for just the two of us ... but doubled our order to 4 California Rolls since Sushi-Zen is sharing some of the revenue in support of Ukraine! We were pleasantly surprised at the larger sized salads ... bigger than when you dine in. (We hope some day to learn the 'secret' of the salad dressing!)We were a bit disappointed, though, in the small portions of the miso soup. They barely filled half a coffee cup, but it was as tasty as ever. With 2 orders of tamago and eel sushi, we did not go hungry however. We look forward to a time later this summer when we can return to dining AT Sushi-Zen's wonderful location as the quiet and peaceful atmosphere is most welcome.
It's mid, but they do have some interesting rolls. Usually the spicy/crunchy ones were the best tasting and enjoyable to eat
Quality, taste 10/10. Service 10/10. I love this place. For the amount of sushi we purchased ($150+) I'd love to see it in a boat! Would also like to see a fountain soda machine instead of the canned soda. I may not eat anywhere else if that was to happen
The order was perfect. The service was great. The sushi was very tasty. I love Sushi Zen
Sushi Zen makes food that is very much like the food I ate when I lived in Japan. Sometimes it is even better. Tonight I had the best Chicken-Egg Donburi I had ever had.
Initially had a great experience with Sushi Zen—ordered take out one Friday and the rolls and chirashi bowl were amazing. A great treat after a long week. But today I got a chirashi bowl and there was no ginger, no wasabi, and fewer servings of sashimi than the first time and they were some of the worst cuts I’ve ever had. I gave three stars because the rolls are great but when sashimi isn’t good, and consistency isn’t there, it doesn’t make me want to come back again.
