First time in over 50 years I’ve been disappointed!!! The pizza isn’t hot and fresh at lunch, seemed to get a reheated leftover slices, Mario’s has taken a different look from its original mom & pop neighborhood favorite that was the main stay of Lefty and Joe; their love and passion is gone with it being replaced by a food truck without wheels hot dog joint…Mario’s is now dead and buried…only two stars from my leftover memories which was a 5+ star pizza palace.
If you like Sicilian Pizza, this is a great place to grab a “slice”. Rather than the traditional triangle slices that’s more common, Mario’s slices comes in squares. The sauce and cheese is packed with flavor, and if you’re a still hungry their menu has a great selection of other options from hotdogs to hamburgers. Best of all, there’s an ice cream shop attached to the building. Dessert!!
This is one of the gem's of the area. So good in fact that many celebrities when they're in town have to grab a sub here. The food in general is good, but the crown jewel is the Lefty. My first time there I was told, just try it despite it sounding different. Now I'll drive an hour just to get one.
So this spot came highly recommended from my good Northern Virginian folks!! This pizza house has been around for a minute (a while). Went to this place on a whim it looked cool as I was driving by. Went inside ordered teriyaki wings and fries it came to about $20 that’s cool but the food was not. The wings were not sauced at all there was a little teriyaki juice in the foil but it wasn’t thick enough to coat the wings. The fry container was open so fries were in the bag. I was told to wait outside until my food was done because they were closing but it was cold overall bad experience.
I recently visited Mario’s with my girl on Saturday night, and had a very pleasant interaction with the man at the register. The food was great (particularly the mozzarella msticks), and the ice cream sandwich was allegedly of high quality (it was hidden and not shared with me, unfortunately). My only ask of Mario and his staff is to offer slices of ice cream cake - this would be game changing for Mario’s and could potentially launch them to the upper echelon of late night food options in the DMV.
I feel the end of Mario’s is near. I fully understand their reasoning for the new takeout window, but their attention to customers has now gone from bad to awful. There were 3 customers outside being ignored by the 4 employees inside. If the food was spectacular, it might be worth it, but nobody comes here for the quality…it’s the tradition. I’ll take my $6 elsewhere where I can at least get service OR quality. Very sadUpdate: after perusing other reviews, I should clarify I was referring to the pizza, which is mediocre at best. I haven’t had a steak & cheese here in many years.
BEST STEAK AND CHEESE IN NOVA! I don't want you to know about this place but I want it to stay in business. Unfortunately it lost a lot of culture in the last decades or so (locals/natives know what I'm talking about): the current crew are OK but it's not the same vide or experience. BUT!!! The food is still fabulous. BEST STEAK AND CHEESE IN NOVA!
I used to visit there regularly back in the nineties. It's changed a lot. The neighborhood has changed a lot. Good, thick pizza with lots of vegetables. We still have 2 pieces left.
I've been going here for years, it's a great late night place to eat. Recently however my sandwich was salty and the pizza although crisp and good, did not have enough sauce on it. , it was very dry
