This is a legit bakery ( also some deli items ). Open early. Very popular - constant stream of customers by 7:30am on a Friday. Excellent service. Amazing selection of pastries, cookies, breads etc. I sat inside and enjoyed a raspberry croissant and coffee. Saw an outdoor seating area as well.

She answered all my questions and helped me place my order. She gave great recommendations. The cake looks so nice and pretty! They did an amazing job getting the Logo on the cake (see the attached photo)!! Also very affordable! With delivery, 1/4 cake, with custom logo was all $126!! Can’t beat that! In addition to the prompt and smooth delivery!! Great job & Thank you!!!!
We come to DC to visit our daughter and her family. We discovered Heidelberg Bakery about 10 years ago, and I was so happy to find "Cream horns" in the display case. I haven't been able to find them near us. We went to the shop the other day but were disappointed that there weren't any in the display case and asked a woman named Susie if there were any available. She went out back, and a few minutes later came back with 4 that were just made for me. I was so pleased that she could do that for me. The bakery has such a wide variety of cakes, breads, cookies or anything you could wish for. It is always on our list of stops when we visit. Thank you, so much, Susie!!
Wonderful bakery with many sweet and savory choices!! The marzipan croissant was absolutely the best! If you like almond paste/marzipan, don’t pass it up! Wish I would have posted a picture but we ate it too quickly!
I'm a native Washingtonian (the rare breed). My family has lived here for 5 decades in the DC metro area. I remember Heidlberg fondly as far back as my childhood memories with my mom. HB goes hand in hand with Garfinkel's as a DC treasure. May it charm and feed future generations!
Went this morning around 9am. Shop was pretty busy, but staff are pros. Take a number, wait your turn while drooling over case after case of goodies. We picked up some donuts, pretzels, eclair, breakfast quiche for tomorrow and dill potato salad for lunch. Everything is so delicious!
Most authentic German bakery and pastry shop in the mid-Atlantic region! I don't mind the 45 minutes trek there because I know I will always get the heartiest, full grain loaves, flakiest croissants, and the freshest pretzels this side of the Atlantic. Most beautiful pastries too, especially the black forest cake. The staff are also so friendly and steadfastly eager to help. Its a local landmark that I hope will stay around forever.
Best pastry shop in this area without a doubt. Lots of authentic German pastries as well as other items. Staff is friendly and shop is spacious with an area to sit and devour your food.
Excellent pastry shoppe and deli selection. We got the pretzels, lemon poppyseed cake, danishes and bratwurst. Highly recommend!
