When I come to DC to visit family, Bruggers is always on my list of places to go, because good bagels are hard to find on the west coast. Today's visit was a huge disappointment. My favorite rosemary bagels were flat and almost soggy. The Pumpernickle bagel wasn't flat, but still lacked the signature bagel texture. If I wanted Bagel shaped Objects, I could just go to the grocery store and pay a lot less.
I have been here multiple times bc it’s right next to my house. But wow, this place is horrible. Bagels are never fresh, they have not once got my order right, never toast the bagel, never follow directions of how I want my bagel just overall incompetence and bad tasting food. Other locations I’ve tried are half way decent, and have good potential but this location is giving the company a bad name.
Ordered a regular coffee and a decaf coffee through the app. Asked to make sure the coffee was decaf when picking up the order and was told by the employee that they didn’t have decaf so she had mixed water with regular coffee, which would not have been mentioned had I not asked. For someone who can’t have caffeine currently, that doesn’t work.
Long lines. Very understaffed. The bagels were average. And we had a terrible experience with their coffee. We ordered 3 coffees to go. They were full to the brim and weirdly spilling everywhere in the short walk from the store to the car. Since they had lids on we couldn't figure out where the leaks were coming from.We put them in the cup holders and within a couple of minutes the cup holders pooled with coffee - turns out the coffee cups themselves were not made of an appropriate material to hold liquids and the cardboard was disintegrating from below. We then thought we'd quickly drink and finish them off - in doing so we realised the coffee was hardly even lukewarm. Very disappointing all round.
The nice thing to say about this place is that they are consistent. Consistently BAD and for many years! The employees seems to ask me what I want, but them talk to another customer and forget my order. "What you want" is their question. So polite. I get home only to see about a teaspoon (no exaggeration) of cream cheese on our bagels, clearly a sign that they are cost cutting. Maybe try Harris Teeter's (?) bagels and buy a tub of flavored cream cheese for an enjoyable experience. "Bye, Bye..." Bruegger's for us.
I ruined a pair of pants shortly after I took the first bite into the oil slathered soft crunch and pillowy body of the incredible bagel shell. Then my taste buds made acquaintance with the myriad of beautiful ingredients tucked in and slumbering between the perfect guardians of bread. I will return in force until I have tried each of their signature sandwiches.
The bagels are pretty yummy but I just have one request, and I saw this echoed in other reviews as well, in hopes that the restaurant might see it.My boyfriend loves bagels but does not eat beef or pork and was really disappointed to find that there was a lack of options. That may seem like a nitpick, but I feel like having a wider variety of veggie or chicken options on the menu isn't impossible! There were lots of beef and bacon options but not a whole lot of vegetarian/vegan/non beef and pork choices. Apparently this used to be the case but things changed.I hated seeing him bummed out about not being able to eat his chipotle turkey bagel upon realizing it had bacon. To be clear, we didn't read the menu carefully and that's on us but I think it's fair to assume that a chipotle turkey bagel wouldn't have bacon on it by default.Just a suggestion.
Never had a mobile order ready when they said it would be. Always end up waiting 15-20 minutes longer. These bagel sandwiches aren't worth the wait. Definitely go anywhere else, way easier than circling the block 5 ti.es waiting for parking. Just hard pass on this place.
I can't tell you where the best bagels in town are, but I can certainly tell you they are not at Brueggers. Ive been twice and both times the bagel sandwiches I ordered were not prepped well, either burnt or not toasted enough to warm the meat/cheese.The lady taking payments was also on a personal call the entire time I was in the shop. Not worth the 8 bucks they are charging for sandwiches there.
I LOVE Bruggers!! They have them in Connecticut. Im so happy to see they have one near by! Cant wait
