This place is by far the BEST Chinese restaurant in Northern VA. The service is impeccable and the food is delicious and always fresh. For instance, the fried wontons are delicately fried.. not the typical hard as rock piece of meat you can barely chew. This place has been run by the same folks for many years and I just love how friendly everyone is. This place should definitely be on your list to try!
My husband and I just started getting take out from here recently. I would say I’m rather particular about Chinese food (I am admittedly Caucasian) because I have traveled to China and also grew up near NYC and got Chinese food and dim sum in the city pretty often. Szechuan Star had a great amount of creative options but enough choices for my husband who isn’t as adventurous as I am. Every meal we have had so far I have loved. The owners are also very nice.
I hate to write negative reviews for restaurants, but this is unacceptable. I place an online order and gave instructions for the delivery driver to text me or call me when they were outside the apartment building. Half an hour later there is a male knocking outside my aparment door as if he was the trying to teardown the door. He doesn't even say where is coming from and starts to yell "Why are not answering you phone", "I text you and call so so many times", "update you phone number... next time I will leave your food outside on the street". Since I can care less for his fustration I just grab my food and closed the door. I double check that my phone number was correct before writing this review. Whether is true if he called me or not (because I did not get any calls or messages), it is not a reason to knock on someones door like that. Much more less to speak to someone with such tone and demeanor. Its a shame because I really like this retaurant and the people that work there, but some of their drivers are just disrespectful.Update: My order was also wrong.
The wings are nasty. At first I thought they weren't clean on the inside because it's yellow like the yellow since stuff that is on there before you clean it. But it may be curry seasoning. It's very salty and I think I have a headache coming. The egg rolls are good. The shrimp and broccoli was "okay". I may go back again for the egg rolls but skeptical about my other choices.
Bad Service! I order Chinese Food, to be deliver to my job, and i ask for lunch special of 5 orders and charge me $58 dollars, in 10 minutes I call back to cancel the order and get a refund, and the lady all mad at me, saying why? If your food is almost ready and said to me, that next time when i call? To not order, I don't care. Other chinese Food have lunch special and charge only $30 dollars. I want my money back or otherwise i will call police. I want to speak with the owner.
Today, Dec31-2021 we ordered basic food for dinner; it was late and our Duck place plan never materialized.SS is a true Star; we ordered fried rice (the weakest of all) an excellent Orange Chicken and a superb combination Lo-MeinAll food was excellent; we picked up and it was ready, very hot and waiting for us... in just over 10 minutes.Answered at the restaurante was friendly!I am sure I’ll be ordering from them, a true STARUpdate: day after fried rice was spectacular! :-) (ate Jan 3-2022 for dinner)
My family and I tried Szechuan Star for the first time today. We tried the Peking Duck, Steamed/Fried dumpling, and Szechuan green beans. The food was really good. Well portioned out and reasonably priced. Pleasant staff. Making you feel like family. We will be ordering from there again.
One of my fav Chinese restaurants! Grew up eating here & now take my kids here whenever we are in town. Yummy food, good portions & nice people :)
I really wish I could give this place a better review but I've ordered from here 4 times and twice the food was ok. The last couple times there was almost no chicken in any of the battered chicken dishes. I ordered the General tzo chicken and orange chicken and it was 95% batter...soggy batter... which I found really gross. I hope they take this as a suggestion instead of a criticism. The "chicken" needs more meat and less batter.
I ordered the beef and broccoli and it was wonderful excellent and very tasty. The place is very nice and quaint. I would recommend this restaurant.
