Great location in the heart of Del Ray. Some good wines. Hit and miss food. I'm writing the review because of a salad we ordered with chicken as the protein. The chicken on this salad looked like a crostini. It had been cooked, microwave and doused with gamma rays. See pic.Come on, Front Porch. I live in Del Ray and appreciate our great non-chain restaurants. But if you're going to serve an expensive salad, at least make an effort with the protein. Even IHOP would be ashamed to put this out.
Good food and drinks. It was very easy to order and pay from our phones. I felt comfortable and safe. I sat outside on a hot day so I'm sure the food would have been more enjoyable inside an air-conditioned room but alas.
The Front Porch has been a frequent stop for us even before Covid hit. During Covid, it adapted elements of the Evening Star to a transformed outside oasis in their back lot. We have never had anything but good service and food here.Recently, they were a little late getting their Frose machine up and running at opening hour. We ended up starting with another selection, but we’re pleasantly surprised when Acting General Manager Ace came to our table with a Frose round once it was ready. She has recently returned to work here and brings a very positive attitude and work ethic with her. Highly recommended for a nice evening outside.
This is a jewel in the Del Ray “scene”. The food is delicious and the outdoor setting is terrific. The only aspect that can improve is a sense of over-pricing on all food and beverages.
A jewel in Del RayWonderful outdoor environment - very casual, and they’ve got PBR.The downside is a sense of overpriced drinks and bar snacks.
Good vibes in a cool part of the neighborhood.
The Front Porch/Evening Star Cafe is a lovely area. The patio extends behind the building, so there is a lots of seating. Our order was placed and paid for via our phones (no servers physically taking orders), which was pretty cool. The drinks and food came out promptly after our order was placed. The food was good - not excellent, but solid. I’d go back for the atmosphere alone.
Walked up in a chance to get a table outside... Ace, the hostess, was gracious and worked us in. Suggested the Thai Mules... delicious! The best part was Ace- a super friendly face, happy to see us. Thank you!
So the Front Porch is a combo of the Evening Star as well. Recommend getting a reservation just in case it’s full. But the staff were very friendly and informative. All we had to do was scan to order. The system charged per person so very simple and easy. Can order multiple drinks at once which was very nice. The biscuits and gravy were delicious!! And everything was spaced out well.
Outdoor seating was nicely spaced apart, and heaters were great for keeping the temperature comfortable. Ordering online was a breeze, and helped with keeping the space feeling clean and sanitary. Lots of families around. The fried cauliflower was delicious and the cocktails were delicious. Would highly recommend if you are in the area, though make sure to make a reservation, as it seems to be a popular place to be!
