Love love love Lavender Moon! They have a huge selection of amazing flavors. Easily one of the favorite cupcakes spots in the DC metro area.
Delicious delicious vanilla lemon curd cupcake - not too sweet, perfectly balanced. This place is arguably better than Georgetown cupcakes 1000%. Also the girl was literally the sweetest ever! For $3 a cupcake you can't go wrong. If you stop by, grab a dozen you won't regret it.
This is my go-to birthday or "just because" cupcake bakery. The flavor offerings are amazing, different, yet familiar. I usually scrape the icing off of cupcakes. I never have to this with their cupcakes because there is a perfect pairing of flavor and sugar. As with any small business, give them a quick call or check for the most up to date store hours before popping up.
closed prior to time posted on a saturday evening with a sign stating that they were sold out. it sucked because that was going to be my birthday cake.
First time visiting. Grabbed some cupcakes for a girlfriend's birthday. Very pleasant. Unless you order ahead, you are limited to what they have on hand. What they had was tasty to sample from.
The service is so good. They are so kind and patient (selecting the awesome flavors they offer). But personal, they are very sweet.
I have a tradition of eating cupcakes on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial whenever I am in town. In the past I have gone to two other DC cupcake establishments. This time I read reviews and was interested in trying Lavender Moon. I agree with the reviewer who said that the place looks like it is closed. I actually called from my car to see if it was open.I chose three of each of the two top sellers for my friends to enjoy on our nighttime memorial walk two days later. I was so grateful I brought along paper plates and napkins and forks as these cupcakes are so much more than you can handle with your bare hands: so moist, gooey in a good way, and flavorful. We lifted our little cakes to the Great Emancipator and toasted our evening in the Federal City, so grateful for the history, the beauty, the story, and the treats.
I wish I could give five stars, but just a couple reasons I had to go down a star.First, the place looks closed because it's dark, but try the door! I would suggest an open sign or brighter lights. I almost walked away, but a friend of mine tried the door and we went in.There aren't any signs for what the cupcakes are, or prices. The prices are a little high, but the cupcakes are delicious and make you forget what you paid. All four I got were delicious. My small problem, the lady told me the cupcakes and one she told me was a pineapple tropical type one. When I got home it was definetly banana nut or something of that nature. Home is Texas, so I couldn't go back to get the right one. ?Otherwise, highly suggested if you're in Old Town Alexandria.
This could become an addiction if I lived in VA!!Seriously the best cupcakes I have ever had. I am not usually a cupcake lover as I find that most frostings are too sugary and the cakes lack much substance. These cupcakes are sooo good! We had 3 different varieties and each cake and frosting was unique and delicious!! I found the cakes to be dense enough, yet moist, with a rich flavor. The frostings each had their own intensity; distinct and flavorful and not sugary.Really enjoyed these!!!
This little place was just okay. The key lime was definitely more of lemon meringue. Was good but just mis-labeled? The double chocolate was the best one I tried. Peanut-butter chocolate was good. The shop needs some help aesthetically. I felt like I had to look for where to buy cupcakes and that I was accidentally entering a vacated home. There was a bag of personal items at the bottoms of the stair case and I felt confused. This may be due to COVID?, but I don't remember seeing any signage. It could help if they could move the cupcakes to the front or add a large chalkboard sign? I would even be willing to write it for them with cute bubble letters.
