Great food, fantastic atmosphere. If you want to eat at a restaurant thatâs been operating longer than the country has been in existence, then this is a great place to be. Youâll be eating in the same place George Washington held his birthday ball, and Thomas Jefferson held his second inauguration ball.
Food excellent. Service was excellent. Will be back again. Love visiting when we come to Virginia. The only thing I was disappointed with is they didnât have their entertainer who played music and spoke with guests about history of tavern. Other than that everything was fantastic.

Fully expected the historic building would be the main thing & food would be secondary, but the food was incredible! The complimentary bread, the meatloaf, & the French onion soup were each exceptional in my opinion. I will be back to try dessert because I was way too full from dinner!
The dining area was hot. I order a burger well done. It was bleeding on the inside. The service staff wasnât pleasant and I had to ask for water. I wouldnât recommend. The silverware was stuck to the table. They had to re-do the meal. It took 30 minutes for them to re-do the burger. Lastly, The burger was burnt and very distasteful!
