The food is good which makes the fact that the service is terrible and the management is dishonest a disappointment. First, they charge a 10% "Restaurant Charge", which is just a way to increase prices but not show it on the menu. Second, they count infants towards your party size, so they can get you to 6 people and charge you the 20% gratuity. Which is especially frustrating because the service was so terrible when we were here, they would have been given a lot less than that. We waited almost 20 minutes to receive water, and saw the waiter exactly twice the whole dinner (the second time he was dropping off the check). If you ask any of the other staff for something, or for the waiter, they'll say they will be right out, and then nothing. The restaurant was not busy, two sections were completely empty. Like I said at the top, the food was good, but definitely not worth dealing with all of the bad service and shenanigans. Definitely won't be coming back again.

Really nice variety of choices - more than crepes. I had the quiche, which was great. My friend had the burger, which she said was also very good.Really nice day, so we ate outside in a little tent. Very pleasant!Great for breakfast, brunch or lunch!

The restaurant and sidewalk seating were crowded at midday on a Saturday and there was a 15 minute wait for a table. The menu is long but only certain things are available at lunch on weekends. The waitress was uncertain about what could be ordered and had to go and ask which was a little surprising. She found out that we could only order from Brunch and Crepes section of the menu on Saturday which was fine. My husband ordered the Tuscan crepe and I ordered the breakfast bruschetta. After a 15 minute wait the orders came out and they brought the wrong order to me. My husband started his crepe and after about 5 minutes my correct order finally came out. Mine was completely cold and flavorless despite the pancetta. My husband said his tasted terrible. We were pressed for time so we added salt (which I never do) ate our meals and asked for the check. The waitress came out with a tablet computer open to the tip page with 20% checked in advance. Since we were in a hurry I simply signed and asked for a receipt. I had never even seen the breakdown or total. She delivered a paper receipt and the cost was $60 for two tasteless, simple meals, one soft drink and the tip. Fontaine is apparently popular judging by the crowd on a Saturday but, needless to say, we wont return. The only person who delivered good service was the cheerful maitre d' who did a good job of managing the waiting list for tables.

Service was prompt and friendly, food was delicious, portions were generous. The coffee shop side of it made a fantastic cappuccino with locally roasted beans, and their pastries were outstanding. Yes, you’ll pay Alexandria prices, but it’s in Alexandria, so I didn’t feel gouged. ??‍♀️ Would definitely go again!

We happened upon this restaurant while walking around Old Town. I saw the outside tables while walking down King Street and thought we should check it out. The food was excellent. My wife had the mussels and frites. They were terrific. The restaurant is cozy and warm. It was a perfect lunch spot.

Stumbled into this caffe serendipitously and found the friendliest people inside with hands down the BEST cup of coffee I’ve ever tasted. I actually walked out of the shop, took off my mask to take a sip and audibly exclaimed “OH MY GOD!” All I had was an americano with steamed almond milk and I’m hooked. I almost wish I had something negative to say so that it’s not too busy the next time I go! Thanks again John, it really was a pleasure.

The food is mediocre and over priced. In addition to a mandatory gratuity, they added a restaurant fee. In total, there was 100.00 added to the bill. Unfortunately, the service was not up to par. Our server rarely came to check on our table and didn't ask if we wanted refills on our drinks. He also had to be reminded after 30 minutes that we had ordered coffee/tea. Overall, not worth the aggravation of finding parking.

A wonderful atmosphere and terrific food!

After reading reviews on FB and online, I had such high hopes for this restaurant I booked a lunch for myself and 5 friends during the week. (Mind you they don't take reservations...we made plans.)Ambiance was quaint in the back room, but service was slow. My $11.50 Bellini arrived flat. The PEI mussels were extremely fishy (causing me to question if they were truly PEI) with zero broth flavor. When my friend explained her dissatisfaction, he just said "sorry you feel that way." The crab cake was nearly all filler. A good crab cake should be packed full of flavorful crab, not mushy breadcrumbs. When it was time for the check, we tried to help our server out by calculating our own contributions. When we asked him to split the check between 2 cards, his body language and eye roll were something to behold!Besides paying for parking, the accumulated total per person for the combined VA sales tax, the Alexandria City tax, the Restaurant fee, and mandatory gratuity added a whopping $17 to EACH PERSON'S meal! We are all about supporting local businesses but the quality of food and service at this establishment cannot justify another visit.
