Had a great experience for my brief visit to this gem. I happened to be in the hat store next door when we left and decided to stop for a snack. The owner was very friendly and very engaging with answers we had about his products. He offered us samples of Gelato and explained the ingredients/ tastes of each of the fresh empanadas. We settled on 2 each so we can sample each other’s and we were not disappointed. Nice/ flaky/ buttery crust, well seasoned, and delicious. Worth a visit for lunch or a quick snack on the go.

I came on 8:17 pm, Google maps show me that cafe is open (closing at 8:30 pm) but they were already closed

Visited a couple times and have been impressed by both the service and quality of the food both times. Today I got a chai latte and a chicken tamale. Latte was one of the best I have had and the tamale tasted authentic like my Peruvian grandmother makes. Empanadas I tried previously were also delicious as well.

When we entered, I was glared at by the owner who was hanging holiday decorations while on a ladder in the small entryway. I was politely waiting & even said excuse me, but he still seemed irritated, despite my being a customer. We ordered empanadas & pizza. The empanadas were not much better than hot pockets & the pizza was obviously two slices of frozen pizza with some spices sprinkled on top.The decor is also hard to look at because there's "too much" to look at, from old lamps & movie star posters, to dried flowers, to skateboard & Ford signs & old fashioned European reprints. We didn't know what to look at first. We feel bad not leaving a good review, but also feel the need to be honest, as the whole time we were there the owner was truly seemingly grumpy at having to run the place. Kudos to the cashier girl for being polite & friendly despite his grumpiness.

This place is never open. Call first don’t believe the posted hours.

My friend and I decided to stop in Boccato since I had noticed a few days ago that a new shop had opened up in Del Ray. Let me tell you about the empanadas. AMAZING, especially with the peruvian sauce and the green jalapeño sauce; They we’re so flavorful! My friend asked the owner how he came up with the combination and he very nicely told us that it is actually very common to see in South America. I love finding places with culture and I really enjoyed the food, as well as the feel of the shop. I can’t wait to come back and try the gelato, as well as the 5 spiced Hot chocolate — now that the weather is cooling down it sounds amazing. This is another hidden little gem in Del Ray that I am glad to have found! So if you want to support local businesses stop by, You won’t regret it.

I want to like this strange little place but it’s hard to. During our we visit we had the house specialties, Gelato and Empañadas. Do those two foods go together? No. Are they at least tasty? Not really. All I can say is this; the gelato while “ok” wasn’t by any stretch, great. And the empanadas, while hot, were also old. Hard. And tasted as though they were at one point frozen…in a factory. I hate saying this but I don’t think it’s worth the visit. Maybe revisit the concept?

The Jamaican beef empanada is really a flavor that I could’ve lived without ever trying.

I really wanted to like this place. The owners were friendly as was the service. But the place is way, way, too small. The "cook" was making food right in the middle of the store where we walked right by it a few times. The most unsanitary thing I think I've seen. It's a shame, they need a bigger store and someone from the health inspection ASAP.

Great salteñas. Very traditional Bolivian preparation.
