I have been to this establishment at least 4 times. However, last night, I booked via resy as usual - excited to share my favorite Alexandria speakeasy spot with my parents who were in town. I paid $26+ for a table of four to reserve on Resy. In the past, the establishment has always applied the cost of the reservation charge to the final bill. This time, the waiter said the $26 I paid prior to reserve a table provided "only the candies" (wrapped butterscotch) and the table fee. He said if I looked closely at resy I would have known, I looked - there is nothing to indicate that you are paying for just a seat. If I would have just walked in... I wouldn't have had to pay anything at all. Absolutely flabbergasted at how they are doing business now. I trusted them and recommended them to many. Now, I can absolutely say DON'T MAKE A RESERVATION ON RESY.
This place's great cocktails are pretty much canceled out by its service and their ridiculous costs. One or two waiters are friendly, knowledgeable, and make your visit fun. Some waiters act like you're not worth their time and make your visit unpleasant. They charge you just to make reservations: I once paid roughly $5 for a reservation per person because they said this covers the cost of a treat, which ended up being literally a single, mediocre, ginger jelly bean thing. And once you have a reservation, you only get 2 hours to stay. The cocktails themselves are a mixed bag: while creative and delicious, they're simply overpriced.Overall this place is worth visiting once, to get the unique experience, but you're better off going elsewhere after that (or skipping this place altogether). You can find equally good or better cocktails elsewhere in Alexandria for cheaper, without an absurd reservation fee and 2-hour time limit, and have a more fun experience overall.
A speakeasy as it is supposed to be !! we loved it, bartenders are experts and the cocktails are absolutely delicious, lot of power and taste. We will be back and we recommend the place !

I’ve been to this location before and I had an amazing experience. I thought I would come back again for a special occasion. Do not go here! The hostess was very rude and ignorant. It’s a speak easy and you think you would want to take a picture while the door was opening. She was extremely rude about her being in the video, and the hilarious thing was that she wasn’t. She was complaining about how rude it was that she was potentially in the video. Assuming that she was once again. Very ignorant. The venue is nice but don’t waste your time. There are better speak Easys to go to. Unprofessional!!!!
A great speakeasy with access through a donut shop. Staff was very friendly and helpful. The specialty cocktails were great. While a bit expensive, you are paying for the atmosphere and experience. The calamari was unlike any other we have had. That said, the mango and spices made it really good.
There weren't any mocktails on the menu and I wasn't drinking. I told the bartender Nick to make me whatever & every drink he created was amazing. All the food was good but I took off a star because it took forever for the scallops I ordered to come out.
The drinks here are WHOA PRICEY! I know we are in NOVA, but come on now. The food is mediocre, although the pork belly was done nicely. Food is also expensive for very small amounts. The donuts for dessert feel like stale leftovers from the adjacent donut shop. Pass on these.
WOW! Captain Gregory’s delivered with the wow factor. Believe it or not, both of these were Mocktails!! It is so hard to find places that are able to make mocktail that seem the the real deal and they went above and beyond. Even though they don’t have a set mocktail menu, I appreciated they were able do a special request. They do a rotating alcohol menu so everything changes frequently which is so fun. I can’t wait to go back.
Such a perfect hidden gem and great addition to Old Town North.
