I've been a fan of Bistro since they opened roughly 3 years ago. Never had a bad experience there. They serve authentic French cuisine, but the steaks are what keep bringing me back. Friendly service, interesting specials, and a great drink selection (both wine and cocktails alike). Venture off the beaten path in Old Town and discover this hidden gem!
As always, the offerings were wonderful, well prepared, and expertly executed. This particular evening, we dined infoors so the noise level was high due to the vaulted ceilings. Nonetheless, we enjoyed the total experience.
We arrived just after 5pm. No one there but us. 1 person at the front, who served as the manager and waiter. Music was not suitable for a restaurant like this (Top Hits, vs. something subtle and relaxing) and it was too loud. We asked to turn it down, which he did. Had to wait to get champagne chilled. Nothing was pre-chilled. It was not very good. (Not his fault though, they only had 2 choices). Another couple arrived. Took a long time to place our order, even though not busy. The bartender showed up and she was loud with the 2 customers at the bar, the acoustics in this restaurant are not good. Too open with too many hard surfaces. She threw bottles into the trash, making it very loud. Their entire conversation echoed across the front area where we were seated. When the food came, the bartender and manager were our wait staff. They never came back to check on things, ask how it was (except once during main course), never came back and poured our champagne or our very expensive bottle of Cabernet. The service was not professional, sort of tossed the food onto the table, versus proper serving like we get at other expensive restaurants, esp. a French or Steakhouse. We had 1st course of the baked brie, which was good. Second course mushroom soup and wedge salad. Both were good. Surf and turf, Sirloin, and Filet steaks were all good. The sides were very good, vegetables were fresh. Mac and Cheese was good. They provide 2 sides with each main course, which is generous. The quality of the food was very good, steaks were cooked perfect medium rare. Lobster was not overcooked and was juicy. So, bottom line is we don't care for the place because of unprofessional service and too loud for us, but the food was very good and we would recommend the food. We were disappointed in the champagne and having to get up out of our chairs and go to a wall and make wine selections. The wines are at room temperature unless you wait to have them chilled (bottles). The food value is good.
French baguette ?? Not at all.Little taste of France ? If you’ve never been to France maybe.Cheese plate : Most those cheese were not egen French !The "foie gras" sas pretty Ok.Sorry but very desappointed by my mail. I will try anotherplace next time.
They accommodated us by turning the music down. It isnât easy to get to. We had someone who canât walk far. The entrance off Duke St was closed
Great meal. Fantastic service by Marc. Always a good experience.
Good food and reasonably priced Will recommend to others and will be back again
My husband and I + 2 friends had a lovely dinner here last night. The pate, beef short ribs, rockfish and beet salad were perfectly cooked and very tasty. Tables are spaced nicely so there is not a high noise level at all. Service was very attentive and prompt.
Food was very average and over priced Service was lovely and ambiance is fine
I enjoyed my dining experience here and would definitely return. A friend and I made day of reservations and we were able to sit outside despite our reservation being for standard indoor dining. Very attentive staff and my water glass was never empty. I have the surf and turf special with the scallops which were delicious, the only thing is that my medium steak was cooked a little too "well" but I would definitely return.
