Great food! We sat at the kitchen bar and watched the kitchen staff weave their magic. It was fascinating to watch people do,their jobs..especially since they were so good at it. The place has a great vibe: comfortable & casual yet very well-run and professional. We now have a new favorite restaurant in Burlington.
It's been awhile, but so glad they're back in full force. As always, the most attentive and accommodating staff to be found anywhere. Our server was Kendall, an extremely pleasant and knowledgeable young woman. I've never had any server at HOW the wasn't. She explained everything in detail, offered great suggestions, and offered options as well. The pork belly was fantastic, had leftovers seared for breakfast today as well. The ribeye for two was fantastic, and had that subtle wood-grilled taste, cooked to perfection. Although I still don't like Kale, it was ok here. The prices are up like everywhere, but I'd much rather eat here on occasion than far lesser restaurants, so it's well worth it. A unique and pleasant experience as always.
My favorite restaurant of all time. Staff are extremely knowledgeable and kind. Food is out of this world. Cocktails are amazing. Great date night, or place to bring a client of in town. I go here every time I’m in Vermont
We were in Burlington for the day and loved Hen so much the 1st time a few yrs ago we wanted to go back. Couldn't get a reservation, but they have walk-in spots at the bar & kitchen counter. Excellent service from the bartender and food was wonderful!
I think you should go in knowing there is a limited menu and it will be about $100/pp. We did the ribeye and the lamb sausage, some cheese, some rolls, some other things I don’t remember. It was an enjoyable experience with a really good server. This is the darling of Burlington. I’m not quite sure it lives up to the hype because expectations were set so high, but again, our food was good and it was a nice meal. I would return. Worth checking out if you can get a reservation.

We had a wonderful experience at Hen of The Wood. They accommodated their menu for my vegan dietary needs. Friendly, blonde woman was our server (sorry cannot remember her name), and took care of us well. The restaurant had a nice buzz.
Wow! My fiance and I recently visited for dinner and could not have been happier. Every single course of our meal was fantastic. Amazing cheese boards, very fresh swordfish and steak. Quality ingredients and food. When they say farm to table here, they mean it! Also do not skip dessert. The orange cake was the best cake we have ever eaten. If we are back in Burlington we will return here for sure. Five stars *****
Last minute Walk-in and were offered a spot at the bar. Best decision of the day. The pastrami duck was an delicious surprise and the work put into the veggies definitely shows. My personal highlight, the olive oil cake. You will not be disappointed!
We were visiting Burlington for just the one night and this reservation was far worth it. The service was impeccable, with multiple wait staff assigned to tables, leaving no needs unattended. The open kitchen made for an interesting show and very flavourful aromas. The wine list was excellent. We had the radicchio salad, which was spectacular. We also had the Hen of the Wood's creative take on tartar. The ambiance was quaint for such a large venue. The restaurant has a wood-burning grill - we will be back for steak!
