Enjoyed a very nice brunch with delicious eggs benedict and drinks. Thought we should come back and try dinner, that was a mistake. Our party had two orders of poutine for an appetizer and it was ridiculously salty. You don't need to salt the fries when you're adding gravy and cheese curds. Short rib "mac and cheese" had about a tablespoons worth of meat and had no flavor. "Cheese" sauce was unbelievably thin and more like milk. The other pasta dish was simultaneously dry and completely drenched in oil. That being said service was good both times. Enjoyable brunch but skip lunch/dinner.
A fork to use for scale. This is the short rib poutine which cost $17. Seven. Teen. Dollars. As another comment writes, there is about a tablespoon of short rib. The plate is not only extremely small itself but it has to be only about $2 worth of ingredients, AND it was extremely salty. Will be speaking to staff giving my criticism. I have never done this before. This has to be the least amount of food I have ever gotten for this amount of money.
I want to love this place, I really do. I usually end up stopping in two or three times a year when I find myself downtown. The last couple times I've gotten a burger or the short rib poutine. I've been disappointed by the overcooking of the burgers and burnt bread on the melt. The menu says they cook everything to medium but I've only ever received well done, dried out patty. A bit disappointing for a restaurant that is attached to a steakhouse. The poutine was good, but not worth $16 for what was a tablespoon of short rib on top of french fries. I love the atmosphere, the staff are always friendly and knowledgeable, I have just received mediocre food on my last several visits.
Delicious food and great atmosphere. Pricing wasn't bad either. Grilled chicken sandwich was great and the mushroom&lentil burger was unreal.
Great restaurant. Great food. Great service. Great prices. Great location. They welcomed us in and served us even as they were closing. Also, a pro American restaurant, with a grand American flag on the wall. When all the other restaurants out here are enforcing draconian vaccine passport screening policies, Halverson's stands for the America of yesteryear, of strong values rooted in service, freedom and respect. This is the restaurant for true Americans and liberty lovers everywhere.
Extremely disappointed. Lemonade tasted like Green Olive juice, same for Shirley Temple. Onion soup had raw onions. Chicken was burnt on chicken sandwich and wrong dressing was delivered on my Cobb salad. Only meal that was good was a breakfast sandwich. This was one of my worst dining experiences in the last five years.
Nice atmosphere; casual with great food and staff. Drinks were yummy, too. Great drop in for bevs and bites. Brussel sprouts were fabulous as were the burgers. Server was friendly and prompt with attention.
We have been going here for almost 20 years! Locally owned, you always run into people you know. Food is always good, whatever is on the menu! Music on the back patio, cozy event rooms, sit at the bar, or sit on Church St and people watch. We’ve had parties, large groups, lunch, dinner and stopped by for an after dinner drink…. It’s a go-to spot for everyone.
Nobody in my party was wearing any lipstick, lip balm, lip anything. Waiter delivered our "complementary" ice water with a "complementary kiss" working hard to see that covid don't spread I see?! Never again, and only compensation on one drink!!! Not even free! I'd have no problem paying for the other 3 drinks but come on, 15% off ONE DRINK!?!? That's all they could do.
Yummy food & drinks! We were super impressed for our first time there. The poutine appetizer was great! My husband said his burger was possibly the best he’s ever had. And I thoroughly enjoyed every part of my salmon entree (with fingerlings and asparagus). Will definitely come back.
