We would have had a long wait because it was graduation, but manager was able to rush/clean a table...place has a lot of seating. If you're into the mindset that bigger is better, you'll love it here. We would imagine that's how they justify their prices. Came recommended by locals. People were pleasant, but on this day overworked.
They were very busy tonight. The homemade food are so delicious we almost ate the plates. ( we also had hiked 10 miles earlier & starving ?)
The diner has a rustic, open decor, with friendly staff and a wide selection of food at reasonable prices. There were also a lot of interesting wall hangings, along with various souvenirs for sale, many with a bear theme. All in all, an interesting place.
We ate late at night during the iron man event in town but were still greeted friendly. Hungry as we were we both ordered the pot roast with a tortilla soup as an appatizer. Boy did we order way to much ! The potroast portion was huge ! The corn bread was delicious and we ate like bears and still had left overs. It was good honest food, nothing fancy, exactly what the doctor ordered for that day. A bit pricey at $ 44,00 including 2 soda's
We always look for Black Bear Diner when we travel. Their coffe is excellent (maybe with a hint of hazelnut?) and the sweet cream pancakes are the best. You know what your getting at the Black Bear Diner!
The facility seemed rundown. We were seated after a brief wait at a table with too much air-conditioning. The server was friendly but the food delivered was not what we ordered. The error was corrected but the Patty melt was flavorless and the chicken soup was awful — the chicken was clearly processed cubes. Discouraged, we opted not to order dessert and fled the scene. We heard one patron complaining that If her food was not delivered in the next few minutes (after an inordinate wait) that she and her party would leave; the server’s response was that she had no control over the kitchen. Bad bear has bad food.
After traveling all day, we stopped for the night, checked into our hotel and walked over to the BBD...about 30 minutes before closing. We ordered a drink. Soon the manager came over and explained that they do not serve alcohol 30 minutes before closing!! They would happily take our food order, have us wait for it but not while sipping a drink! What a stupid policy. It cost them 2 dinners and drinks...we went to a restaurant that appreciates its customers.
My wife and I love coming here for breakfast dates. The staff is always friendly, and we’ve never had a bad meal!
You can count on Black Bear Diner for efficient service and generous helpings. Staff was super friendly and also rare these days, but they had plenty of staff which was refreshing to see...they must treat employees right! 10 minute wait on a Sunday around 10am, so that's pretty snappy! Bacon was thick cut and perfectly cooked, cinnamon roll pancakes were tasty albeit not consistently hot all the way through. Pancakes were great and man did we both leave stuffed.
The food and service was great! For breakfast, my fiancé and I got the Grizz & the 2 egg combo with corn beef hash. The pancakes were delicious, moist & fluffy. It was my first time trying huckleberry lemonade, which was very refreshing. Also, our waitress Regina was great, friendly, & attentive, even with how busy I could tell she was. We'll definitely come here whenever we're in the area! Plus, I think the bear theme with everything is adorable.
