I stayed at the Grand American hotel due to a Conference. Actually the Conference was held there too. Very nice and elegant suites. Incredible view to the mountains. Very kind workers at the hotel. It was the perfect venue for the conference too. Big auditoriums and saloons. Nice options of restaurants and bars. You can go by walking to he mall center, Temple Square and other touristic places at Salt Lake City. I definitively recommend this hotel and I hope to stay there again soon.

I stayed at the Gran America with my daughter and we had a great time! We stayed for seven days, about two weeks ago. The hotel is beautiful. My 2 year old loved walking, chasing birds and picking flowers in the courtyard (which is gorgeous). The toy store was a lifesaver. We had our daily art session with their supplies. There were a couple of large events during our stay, including a wedding, but the noise wasn’t disturbing. The outdoor pool was about 25% full and opened until 9 pm- good fast service and nice drinks. The indoor pool is inside the Spa and I believe you need to book a treatment to use it. The staff was overwhelmingly nice, from the ladies at the toy store (so welcoming), the maître ds (and the rest of the staff at the restaurants), the girls at the bakery, bellboys, the valet and pool guys (and girls), security (fun guys), front desk staff, housekeeping… It was pretty good hospitality! The negatives didn’t have much of an overall impact. The food tasted okay to good and the options were a little disappointing (especially the kids menu). There weren’t boutiques in the hotel but the Spa may have some stuff (I didn’t go). A couple of things in the bathroom weren’t working well. There is beautiful furniture cramped in random places. BTW, there is a tram that stops across the hotel and is complimentary if you stay downtown but, I wouldn’t use it. I used it one day and a homeless man from Nevada sitting across from me told me he didn’t like to use it much because there were always “weird people” in it and he was afraid he could catch something. Needlessly to say, I didn’t get on it again.

Comfortable bed, but the room makes me want to vomit. The furniture, carpet, drapes, and lamps are all from the 60’s. Staying here is a lot like staying with my grandma, and it even has an old person smell. I wouldn’t recommend this to anybody under 70 years old. Even then. The old furnishings can only be cleaned so much and there’s plenty of stains on the lamps and furniture to prove their age. The only redeeming factors are the large bathroom and the mattress. The mattress isn’t as good as what I have at home, but it’s better than most hotels. My well traveled opinion, don’t stay here unless you really like nostalgia.

Had a lovely lunch at The Laurel Restaurant located inside the Grand America Hotel. Enjoyed several appetizers and had the Prince Edward Island mussels which were prepared to perfection. The service was attentive without being intrusive and the entire experience was just delightful for a warm Summer day out to enjoy a wonderful meal with good friends. I have visited the Grand America and Laurel a number of times and this was by far my best experience?

We love the grand America! There are endless opportunities at this hotel! Whether you’re looking for a staycation in Salt Lake City with a great spa and close to several restaurants or attending an event, the grand America is extremely beautiful and exquisite. The staff are always so friendly and the food is very good! We love the Mother’s Day brunch at the grand America and I would recommend anybody looking to stay in Salt Lake City to stay here. You will be baffled by the beauty of the interior as well as the exterior.

We loved this place! From start to finish everything was perfect. Our young girls (<10) fell in love with the hotel and staff. Everyone was so kind and welcoming, and we are just a regular family. Decor was beautiful, classic but not ostentatious. Room had everything we needed, beds were very comfortable and the view over the city towards the mountains as the sun set was incredible. We ate at the Laurel - just amazing! They accommodated the kids and our allergies very well. The food was excellent, and very reasonably priced. Something for each of us - all empty plates and pleasantly full stomachs. The girls especially loved the soup, and one really liked the salmon, the other the steak. Our server was delightful! We had fun riding the bus and trains around town. We took an easy 30 min bus ride to Mount Olympus, and ate at Rawtopia (highly recommend- very healthy organic & allergy friendly food and the kids ate all of it!). Had a nice walk around there too.The hotel has two pools, so of course we had to try both. The weather was a little cold for the first couple of days, so the indoor pool was the winner there. Nice and warm, and not too busy. On the warmer days the outdoor pool was lovely. Plenty of loungers and attentive service. The gentle piano or harp music in the lobby bar / restaurant in the evenings was a great way to soothe the girls. The hotel was quiet at night so we all slept well. Can’t really think of anything negative to say about it. We all hope to be back soon; the girls still ask us to send their pictures to both the hotel and restaurant to say thank you!

Beautiful hotel. It was only Built because Salt Lake had to have a five-star hotel because of the Olympics but they've kept it up very nicely. Sometimes I'm lucky enough to get the extra large rooms on my layovers that actually have hallways. The bathrooms are always beautiful in all the rooms great location

I had a good stay here I didn't really know what to expect but it was nice. The rooms are getting a little dated and there is no complimentary water in the rooms but other than that I think it was a good option for SLC.

It's a nice hotel but I do chuckle at the comparisons made to some of the top hotels in the country. Again, it is nice but just not at that level in my opinion. Service was over the top courteous from valet to bellman to front desk as well as all other staff we interacted with. Our room was huge and the bathroom layout is spectacular with separated sinks, toilet room, large tub and shower. In terms of cleanliness, we felt the beds and room in general to be very clean. However, the area where the baseboard meets carpet needs some attention as you can tell it is repeatedly missed. Also there is just grunge in the bathroom where the floor tile mouldings meet the wallpaper. And the wallpaper....If you are going to have wallpaper, you need to maintain it! There are several spots in the toilet room where the wallpaper has separated from the wall. Not a great look. Did find a hair on the floor near the sink but quickly got it with a tissue before anyone else saw. Beds were adequate and pillows very luxurious. Pool areas were really nice and the lobby is very pretty. Hotel hallways and common areas appear to be very well mainained. Be forewarned, a block or two to the west and the surroundings get pretty dicey. We were dismayed by the drive from freeway to hotel. Not an area to explore by foot.

Beautiful views & great restaurants & detail service
