I had such a pleasant dining experience while in Salt Lake City with my fiance. We had just gotten our rental car and saw that this place was nearby. The fiance and I enjoy Indian food where we live in Oregon, so this is not an unfamiliar cuisine for us. The lady mentioned to us that the food would be served in to-go containers, which was not a problem for us especially since we typically have leftovers when eating at Indian restaurants. The service was friendly, and we felt well taken care of. The food itself was delicious! Flavorful, and I was given the option of a spice level between mild and medium. Our server figured we were from out of town and chatted with us about our trip, and seemed to take a genuine interest about it. I'm glad we found this restaurant! And sure enough, our portions were large enough for us to have leftovers for dinner after our hike.

Hate to leave this review but very disappointing meal. Ordered Chicken Curry with plain naan. There were multiple issues with this meal along with a couple positive notes. First the entree. The chicken itself was fresh and tender. But the overall dish was not tasty at all. The curry wasn't the best tasting curry, but what made it nearly inedible was the unbelievable amount of salt. By far the saltiest tasting food I have ever had. Had to pull the chicken out of the sause. It was that bad. Even withouth the salty taste it wasn't the most pleasant curry I've had. The naan....not inedible but some of the worst I've had at a restaurant. Very dense. Odd color. A bit greasy. Almost like it was pan fried instead of baked in a tandoor oven. Very thin, no bubbles, unrisen and flat. Not appetizing on its own and definately could not dip it in that salty curry sause. On a positive note...they included some tasty mint chutney in the order in which I could dip the naan in which made it worth eating. If not for that very good chutney, the naan would have been wasted. Now, the rice. This is where I am a bit upset. It was not basmati rice. It was good ole plain long grain white rice. And to top that off, it was incredibly oily. A thick film of oil is at the bottom of the container. Absolutely no aromatics to this rice at all. I tasted and smelled it over and over again. It was plain white rice. Cheap. Shameful. If they try to say it was in fact basmati rice then they have the worst in the world. I ordered from here because Door Dash reviews had it at a 4.8 I can't believe it. I can't remember the last time I've been so disappointed in Indian food. I wanted to order from a place called Tandoor Inian Grill because I've had a dish there called Chicken Cilantro and it was one of the best Indian dishes I've ever had, but they were not listed on Door Dash. Next time at this hotel I will just take an Uber there.

Currently, food is served within to-go style. The portions were plentiful and made to order. I regret not ordering more spice in my tikka masala, my dish as I asked for was mild/medium. I suggest medium:) The rice served with was enough for 3 people. All was a pleasant experience.

Lovely Indian spot at the heart of the city. The owner is pretty kind and welcoming. And of course their food is lovely and delicious.

This place is absolutely 5 stars. Fine cuisine of indian indeed!! i have had Indian food across the US, Star of India is the absolute best!!!..Every bite was perfection, from the perfectly seasoned, succulent, tender meats to the perfectly cooked rice. Lots of options on the menu. Price is very fair. Portions are huge. Venue is very clean. Lots of parking. The staff is very professional and nice. It was a pleasure eating there. We will definitely return to Star of India..

Definitely worth the wait. On the night of my visit there was only one person seating guests, and taking orders. They mentioned they’ve had a hard time finding help since COVID. But the food is delicious! If you appreciate authentic, tasty Indian food, plan a visit here. The location is at a closed motel which looks a bit suspicious driving by, but the restaurant is clean and comfortable.

I ate dinner at Star Of India restaurant two nights ago with a friend and the food is absolutely phenomenal! We had a great visit with the owner who is super friendly and made us feel like family. I will definitely be dining here weekly and recommending it to my foodie friends. If you live in Salt Lake City I highly recommend supporting a local business and dine at this establishment.
