Lived here for years and disappointed every time I come to this place. The owner/manager (?) who is always there is off putting as well. He has chastised employees table side for getting an order slightly wrong. Micromanaging every little thing meanwhile the restaurant kinda sucks. Unsure if ironic or not.Always different faces when we go (a couple times a year) so turnover must be pretty high. Don’t support this place. The food is also very average for what you pay. You can get takeout elsewhere that’s the same quality.

We have been going here for years, and always have a great experience. Authentic food and great atmosphere in the heart of Sugarhouse.

Love the menu here. However, the shaking steak with the side of fried rice takes the crown. The steak litteraly melts in your mouth!

We love Somi! Whether takeout or dine in, their food is SO GOOD! Our kids love the vermicelli and the chicken wings are unreal. Their service recently was also fabulous. Restaurant is clean and takeout is always well organized. We love it.

The service was the absolute worst. Spent $200 here and they treated us terribly. The server was handing out the appetizers and one of their absurdly expensive drinks got knocked over into an appetizer. She threw down a rag and then walked off and never came back! Three of the appetizers and the drink ($40 of food) were totally soaked, with Thai tea dripping down to the floor and all over, very sticky. I had to go find paper towels myself and clean off the table. She never came back to check on us or offer to replace the appetizers or drink. We ended up getting our own water and then when they brought out the pho after 30 minutes, she didn’t bring any of the sides (bean sprouts and basil and the usual stuff). So I asked for that and she was super salty about it; $15 pho with nothing in it - I don’t think they know how to prepare this dish. It was room temperature and the beef was incredibly dry, worst pho I’ve had actually. At the end of the meal when she dropped off the check, one of my family members asked if they could have their drink refilled and she muttered something and again disappeared and didn’t come back. When I went up to pay, I asked if she could take off the $6 drink that spilled (not even all the ruined appetizers or terrible food which was $180) and she said “why should I pay for your drink when you knocked it over”. As if she was going to get in trouble for the accident rather than this incredibly pricey restaurant swallowing the cost of tea to try to make their guest’s experience better. It was an accident, but seems like pretty common practice if a drink spills over all the dishes for the restaurant to replace them (because obviously it doesn’t actually cost them $6 to prep a Thai tea)… I think either the waitress was just incredibly rude or this restaurant has terrible policies for their employees and guests. Also, their food is not very good and definitely not worth the price tag, though perhaps that was again the waitress letting the food get cold or leaving us with only Thai tea flavored appetizers.

Amazing server but terrible food. I order the pho, only a few meat ball and a slide meat. The soup and noodles is the worst part, as in the picture the noodles is over cooked and hardly to eat. The soup is super salty, and bitter, taste like water with full soy sauce and fish sauce. One star is for the great server. I highly recommend this place to hire new chef, otherwise don’t waste this great location.

The food was delicious. Had no problem with that. However, when we were brought our bill, the lady told two people in our party that the only choices for tipping were options exceeding 25%? Are you kidding? The food was yummy, the service was so-so (didn’t expect fine dining, constant service either), but servers saying this to customers is dishonest and shady. Luckily for you, I didn’t realize that you have servers saying thins like this, otherwise, your tips for our meal would have been around 10% along with a one star review.Ultimately the dishonest communication and only displaying high percentage tip options to customers while you’re standing there watching is an intimidation tactic to net more money. However, with great service and honest communication, you’d find you’ll net frequent customers that will continue to come back making you more money.Won’t be coming back. You lost three customers.

Liked some dishes better than others. The shaking beef and the moo shu chicken were good. Orange chicken and the tangerine trio were fine, just not great. The wrap on the avocado and cucumber rolls was too chewy. The calamari were decent, but also somewhat chewy (although I have to admit, I have only ever found a couple of places that have really good calamari). Some of potstickers were mushy - I’d stick with just the pork potstickers. The restaurant was also too cold. Service is friendly and efficient.

This used to be my favorite restaurant. I have celiac disease and must adhere to a strict gluten-free diet. My favorite things to order were fried calamari and chicken wings, because they can make them gluten-free. Everyone at Somi including the owner has confirmed very clearly at least a dozen times over the past couple of years that not only are they gluten-free when specifies, but also cooked in a separate fryer. They aren't.I'm really not sure if they were willfully lying about it or if it was an honest mistake. But the last time we went, a longtime server told us that they are fried in the same fryer as the wings coated in flour. We asked him to confirm for us and he walked to the kitchen and did so, stating there is only one fryer.During the same visit, we asked other workers and they told us (again) it was made in a separate fryer. We were frustrated and asked for confirmation, after which they panicked and told us to sit down and our waiter will be back with us to handle it.Mistakes like these can be incredibly harmful to people like me. I'm disappointed at their dishonesty over the years, but grateful we finally got one server who told us the truth. The pho here is okay, but the consistency varies wildly. Sadly we will not be coming back.

Never had a bad experience at Somi! I have tried multiple times, in cafe, takeout, on patio - always the same quality! I love the Pho and all appetizers I’ve tried. A go-to after a ski-day or a sick day! Living in sugar house, somi has been a top 2 favorite of mine! I crave it repeatedly over all other ramen/pho/viet restaurants in the area and will continue to go back!
