Tucked back off of 2100 S, this restaurant has nothing to hide. The okonomiyaki was delicious and the vegetable tempura was just right. The sushi was good too. Very reasonably priced.
Amazing food. Great atmosphere. This is our third time coming here and have been delighted each time. It is one of our favorite Japanese locations in Utah. All the flavors are delicious great service.
First off you have to get the sushi tacos. They are so good and I always eat them too quick to get a picture. Great sushi. Amazing drinks. I love this place. People obsess over Takashi but this place is just as good and some items are even better (like the sushi tacos).
Most everything I’ve had here has been excellent. Super fresh fish and really, really good apps/tapas. Probably wouldn’t do the Yakitori again but besides that, excellent!
This was a phenomenal restaurant!!! It is tucked back in between buildings but well worth finding. The ambiance, decor, food, and staff make it 5 stars. Our waitress was very knowledgeable about the menu and was very friendly. The tuna tartar wasn’t some of the best I have ever had!! I don’t live in SLC but visit often and would not hesitate in coming back to eat at this restaurant nor would there be any hesitation in recommending this to friends and family that live here. A million thanks for a most wonderful dining experience.
The atmosphere of the restaurant is pretty and clean. The food was decent. But the service was just unbearablyHORRIBLE. First of all, they had no idea that we had a reservation. Second, after my friend was seated at the table, she was left out for a long time without being told that she had to look at the menu from the QR code on the corner of the table. And there was only couple other customers at that time. Third, They took a long time to bring out all the food. We stayed for total of 3 hours, but the waiter didn’t even come check on us once. Even when we wanted service like, order something more or get refill of water. And even when we were waving and calling at our waiter to get his attention, he just ignored us. So we gave up. We left the restaurant thirsty and unsatisfied!I was saying “excuse me” pretty loud like 5 times or more and there were 2 or 3 other waitresses by the bar counter but none of them cared. The wait staff continuously ignored our requests for help. It was totally a weird experience. Total disappointment over all. Once I decided I needed to leave a review I found all the other reviews saying about the same thing, so it must be a common problem here. I am not coming back here again. Ever.
This izakaya is a jewel in Sugar House. They are going for a mix of traditional but also fusion Japanese tapas and for the most part they get it right. Authenticity may be slightly compromised but overall undoubtedly they have made a genuine effort. Everything is pretty much awesome, from the beef to the fish, tempura to the rolls. The place is not overly swanky but can pass for a date place, also a business meal, or even family with kids I'd say. But what really makes this place hum are the reasonable prices compared to the caliber of the food. My group had a lovely time and will definitely return!
I had really high hopes for this place, but was very disappointed. We waited nearly an hour and fifteen minutes for our first food order to arrive. Our waitress did a fine job, but unfortunately the place was so understaffed that everything was so slow. Only one waitress, one bus boy, one sushi chef, and one other cook. Everyone was working hard, but clearly overwhelmed. The bar area appeared very cluttered. Once we finally did get our food, it was good! But not worth the terrible wait.
So, who doesn't like a good Japanese Izakaya. The concept is great. Get some pub food, some good beer and sake,. What could go wrong? Well, a lot. To start, they are so understaffed the waiters are bussing, the chef's are bringing out the food, and there's no one really on point in the kitchen. The place is so unorganized, it's just painful to watch. We started out with a few appetizers Agedashi Tofu - the presentation was wonderful. the tofu was not warm, the outside was soggy, the broth was good and had the right mix of unami Okonomiyaki - soggy bottom, pasty consistency, but once again kudos for good looks but it wasn't warm. Chicken Thigh Skewers - the secret to good yakitori is the binchotan charcoal. This chicken had no smoke flavor, it was over cooked, cold, and had a lot of teriyaki glaze. Hamchi Crudo - the only thing that was actually well done. Fish was well cut, the portions were an acceptable thickness. Grilled Shishito Peppers - would have been good without the teriyaki sauce glaze and if they were warm Grilled tomato and bacon - this dish actually came out warm to hot! the bacon was a bit soggy, not crispy enough ,the cherry tomatos had a robust flavor. Takoyaki - not sure if I tasted any octopus, but I got a ton of mushy batter, too much teriyaki sauce, and a mouthful of bonito flakes. They served these cold! Buta Kakura - how do you mess up braised pork belly? well they did. it was overly dry, over cooked, and cold. These folks need a lot more staffing, the kitchen needs some discipline as they can't seem to get food out fast enough and theirs a massive communications issues with the kitchen and the serving staff. As soon as food is cooked, it needs to be put out. It took us 30 minutes to get seated, 20 more to get our first dish out. And the restaurant was only 70% full. A close look at the kitchen will show you how messy it is back there. If Raku in Las Vegas is a 11/10, this place is a 4/10. it could be a 7/10 with better management.
Just walking by and decided to have dinner - excellent food. The Miso soup was better than I have had in Japan - a must try. The salmon was very good and the Tempura Udon was amazing. My only complaint was that is was very cold inside the restaurant.
