This is the cutest, quaintest, vibiest little cocktail bar I’ve been to in awhile. The drinks were unique and everything we tried was delicious. Their food menu is all from Curry Up Now which shares the same space. The menu is diverse and has spins on classic Indian dishes mixed with Indian street food and more. We ordered the Naught Naan, Samosas and the Pani Puri and all were SO GOOD. Will definitely be back!
Some very creative and well crafted drinks. The bartenders know what they're doing, I just wish the space were bigger. Although even with a full bar, I was able to hold a conversation with little effort, so the noise wasn't out of control. This will definitely become a haunting ground of mine during the week, when I'm near certain to get a seat.
I came upon this bar as a hole in the wall on a Sunday afternoon walk. This is such a nice cute place. Come on a Sunday and get a lot of attention from the bartender with great drinks. Kate was friendly and sweet and so impressive for someone who hasn't been bartending that long. Fun to find a new place like this.
Beautiful decorated place, wow cocktails and the bartenders was super friendly. Small spot to have a wonderfull time with friends.
This is a place that wants to be a grown-up bar. There is incense burning and or food smell from the kitchen next door. But ultimately the cocktails are in accurate, the classics are not classics, this is a cocktail bar with no identity. Many many other places tlgat do a better job but I will say that service was great
It was an experience for sure. The server took forever to greet us. Like 15 minutes forever. There were only 3 of us. My husband and I ordered the same drink..from their menu. And the server forgot. But what bothered me was that he sent someone else over to ask....He was more interested in hanging out at the bar with his friends who were there (the only other people in the place) than he was worried about us.We are not high maintenance people by any stretch and yet his service left us going 'what the...'I ordered a sampler and he commented on how much food I was eating....which is a) rude, b) not his place, and c) some people like leftovers. He then brought out the food. He told us it was everything so my husband and I were left thinking we were sharing a plate. And rice.20 minutes later his food finally came out.Wish we had known earlier so he didn't eat mineWe were also left with out silverware and napkins. He didn't bother to come back around so we had to go to the bar to ask. Normally that would not have bugged me but with only one paying table and the trend he was on, it was the straw that broke the camels backTo be fair, he comped some food for us...The food was ok. If you want good Indian food, there are better places. The place had a good vibe but the service was so bad we didn't even feel welcome.2/10 would not recommend. We won't be going back.
What can I say? This place has a cool sophisticated vibe with the friendliest staff. Cocktails were world class and overall, this is now in my list of places to re-visit next time I’m in Salt Lake. Well done guys.
Staff was friendly and the food and drinks were fantastic. This is a relatively small bar so definitely not ideal for large gatherings. Would recommend if you're just looking for a mellow spot with a few friends.
First off, I'm stunned this place even accepted the reservation since they were closed. Yep. That's right. We showed up to the address and went inside only to find that Mortar & Pestle was a bar in the back of a fast food Indian place called Curry Up. So instead of a nice, quiet evening drinking cocktails, we sat at the Indian equivalent of McDonalds eating sub-par curry and drinking water. To say we were disappointed is an understatement. If you like Indian street food, this may be the place for you. But if you're expecting a dining experience with cocktails, steer clear.
