Multiple people were working here, and it didn't appear any of them played instruments. But the food is good, so long as you don't mind being the star of the one man band. Seriously though, it's a fun diner and worth checking out. Affordable too.
A fantastic option when you want that classic 50s diner feel. The ordering process is unique but not too detracting from the overall experience.POSITIVES: I didn't go in with the highest expectations, but they definitely held their own. I love the decor, filled with shiny 50s car parts, and a colorful jukebox, and cheerful booths. I enjoyed the ordering experience: after you review the menu and decide what you want, 1 person at the table picks up the phone and orders for the group. The kitchen is open where you can see them cook your food (there are even windows at one side of the wall). I loved that you can serve yourself drinks at the fountain and grab condiments and utensils.NEGATIVES: as others have mentioned, there is a bit of a wait. I appreciate that the food is cooked fresh, though. I anticipated it taking 30 minutes or so for my wife and I, but we had our food at about 17 minutes after ordering, which gave us time to relax and drink soda and talk. One gripe I had was that our order of country fried steak and biscuit with gravy (Hank's Country Breakfast) did not have enough gravy for even one of the items. The biscuit was massive and tasted good, but without enough gravy to cover it and more gravy for the country fried steak, it was dry and disappointing. My wife wasn't too fond of their hash browns, that seemed a little underdone. According to one of my friends who frequents the place, our experience seemed out of the ordinary ("usually the food comes swimming in gravy... Etc"). So I guess it depends on the cook.PRICE: $10-20 per person.Overall, the food was decent, the wait was understandably lengthy, the ambiance is fantastic, and the dining/ordering experience is unforgettable. Def worth a shot. I would want to give them another chance when I can spare both the time and money.
True Americans. Nostalgic Diner. Feels like you stepped back in time to a happy, free, carefree time. Great home cooking.
What a great place to eat, it was a a last minute decision to eat here but i am glad we did. Fun atmosphere and great food. The kids enjoyed ordering from the phone and I appreciate the size of the booths. The decorations were fun and the jukebox was an added bonus. If you are looking to have a fun enjoyable night where you can eat some good food take a trip to One Man Band i promise you won't be disappointed. I wish there was one in Salt Lake closer to me though, but its worth the drive so i know we will be going back real soon.
Our family decided to try One Man Band, it was a very solid, super fun diner!First, this is not a typical restaurant. You seat yourself. At your table is a red phone and you use it to call the front and make your order. Once your order is ready they page your table and you walk up to the kitchen and pick up your own plates. All of the refillable drinks and condiments are self-serve as well. The staff was super friendly :).The food was very good diner breakfast food. We tried the biscuits and gravy, French toast, pancakes, hash browns, bacon, and sausage. All was very good food.We will be returning here for breakfasts a lot.
The food looked and smelled great but we wouldn't know because after standing and waiting a half hour finally there was an open table only to have a really embarrassing experience and finding out that the people had just all left to go get their food. This place is ran horribly! There is no one to seat people. The dirty tables don't get cleaned up so that people waiting can get a seat. It is very disorganized. The booth we momentarily sat in was broken. Then after waiting and having an embarrassing experience we decided to leave. It feels like am old poorly cleaned, poorly maintained and poorly run diner. Recommendations: have staff deliver people's food to their tables, seat patrons, clean, and fix broken booths. Our experience was horrible.
the food is good and the prices are reasonable. fun atmosphere.
50's diner atmosphere. I went mid-morning on a weekday, when it was not busy, which was ideal! Seat yourself, then take time to look over your menu and when you're ready to order, you "call" the chef from a red phone placed at each table. When your order is ready, you pay and pick it up at the front counter. Drinks are self-serve, from refrigerator case to fountain drinks. I could see why it's called "one-man band," as the chef does pretty much everything! There was one other employee present who bussed tables and made sure the condiment and drink stations were well-stocked.Good, simple, home-cooked food like grandma or grandpa would make. I had eggs over medium (cooked perfectly), hashed browns, bacon, and a biscuit with gravy. I've had better biscuits and gravy elsewhere, but still a decent meal. Their full menu is served all day, including breakfast, burgers, shakes and the like.
I read several of the poor reviews and found the accusations to be completely unfounded. The entire experience was great from the beginning. There are clear instructions from the beginning on how things work, the environment is very appealing and friendly, and the staff was more than courteous. The food was great as well, easy to order, fast, delicious, and affordable. Would definitely recommend and will be back even with a two hour drive from home.
I went here with my father and girlfriend. We loved the food and the service was fast. I also really enjoyed reading the owners responses for the bad reviews. His responses made us all laugh. I highly recommend this place and we will definitely be back.
