For being a small town steakhouse this place is really good and decently priced. We didn't get to try their steaks but we had a couple of the other southern classics. It was pretty busy but we were sat down right away. They sat us down in the center of the room at a table that was once for a party of 8. It had two tables pushed together and four chairs at each table. They separated the tables by about four inches and sat us down. Two minutes later another party of four sat down next to us. We could hear each other's conversations without even trying. It was similar to how it would be if two different people were on the same table were having two different conversations. So that was annoying but once we got our food we didn't notice. The menu is huge. Variety is nice and appreciated. I ordered the Texas Two-Step with a sourdough jalapeño bun. It was good and flavorful. The bun was definitely my favorite part. The meat was a bit overcooked and dry but still good. It's pretty spicy so be prepared. One of my favorites now for sure. The chicken fried chicken was great. The potatoes tasted good but they tasted almost instant. I say almost because there were pieces of real potato in the mash but I wonder if they mix in some real potatoes in with the instant. It was good though. I also had a bite of the chicken fried steak and I was actually really impressed with that. Also the sweet potato was good and cooked well. Our service was really good and they kept our drinks topped off.
I have been here many of times and had a great experience each time, until tonight! I wanted to bring my boyfriend who had never been. We walked in and was seated immediately. 15 minutes later, after 10 employees walked by and looked at us, someone finally waited on us. He took our drink order, appetizer and food order all at the same time. My boyfriend received his salad before we received our waters. All it takes is one bad experience to ruin them all ?
Never been to John Lillies, before now. A good friend of mine chose to go there for his birthday, so I figured I’d give it a shot. The Parking lot was full when I got there, so figured that to be a good sign. Atmosphere was good. Very friendly and attentive staff. The menu was way more than you would expect from a steakhouse. The appetizers, fried zucchini and brisket nachos, were amazing. I could have stopped there and been happy! Then the recommended huge chicken fried steak came out. It was good, with a thin crispy crust, like my wife likes. Had to ask for extra gravy, though. The lemon-raspberry cake served to the birthday boy made me wish I had saved some room. All-in-all an enjoyable experience that I will add to my once a month list.
Love John Lillie's! Their food is so consistent and delicious. Took an elderly neighbor for lunch today. She was really wanting a good chicken fried steak. Really happy with the meal! She said, so many chicken fried steaks are tough or stringy, but she could cut this one with a fork.
great food & friendly staff. the steaks are tender, tasty, and cooked to order. everything we have eaten has been delicious with ample portions. highly recommended.
This place is wonderful! The service is terrific. The only thing was that my filet was so thick that my usual medium rare was really rare. I'll know to order a step more cooked next time. It was an amazing cut of meat, though. There's a great selection of food. Something for everyone in you group.
Well here’s what I think… it’s OK. I certainly don’t understand all the five star reviews that this place gets. The price range on this steakhouse is at the upper end. But the service and ambience are smack dab in the lower third. The interior is right out of 1970. The wait staff was very nice and did good for us. But they had an unprofessional appearance. The servings were huge. But the quality was meh. So, if you prefer quantity over quality, this may your kind of place. In my opinion, pricing here is ahead of the quality of the experience. It’s not terrible. But I’m not in a hurry to go back.
Have been and eaten there several times. Everyone of those times was good. Excellent food and service. Tonight, we go, ask to be seated in a booth. There were at least 5 open. Hostess said she couldn't seat us. We said we will sit in the bar. She never seated us, never brought us menus and totally ignored us. She did seat another couple who came in after us. Needless to say, we left.
Ate here for the first time yesterday and the food was very good! Had it delivered via doordash. Only complaint is I ordered a baked potato and asked for the butter, cheese and sour cream on the side as I didn't want it to be a goopy mess by the time I received it. Was charged an extra $1+ for the sour cream? I guess the baked potato doesn't come with sc. I'll just use my own next time. But food was fantastic!
Ordered on Doordash, they were out of ribs, which can be tricky over doordash. Called the restaurant and the general manager worked with me and made it right. Would definitely recommend. My steak was cooked perfectly. Wife's salad and potato were good too.
