Loved it! They've closed all locations in Houston so it was an unexpected treat to find this location on my trip to Tyler.Sat outside and enjoyed a wonderful watermelon margarita.. food came out quickly and was as delicious as I remember it. Chips were thin and crispy, salsa was fresh.Had the shrimp Tacos and it was soooooo good!!!It's a bummer I have to drive all the way to Tyler to get great Tex Mex.I hope they reconsider reopening a location here in Houston.
I will probably never go back! I gave it a one star because the hostess was sweet. My daughter's and I were seated on the patio (as we had requested) and were completely ignored for over 5 minutes. The waiter finally came and greeted us with, "How are y'all this evening?" I was a little put off that it had taken him so long to even acknowledge our presence, but I replied, "Pretty good. Thank you." After a very brief pause, he (sarcastically) replied, "I'm good too. Thanks for asking."I ordered our drinks and the table side guacamole. He acted somewhat irritated that we wanted him to make a guacamole for us, but went to get the ingredients. He brought the ingredients to the table and proceeded to prepare the guacamole for us. I attempted small talk with him while he was working, asking if he had made the fresh guacamole many times before. He commented that he had been a waiter there for 8 years and replied, "Yes. Way too many times!" As he was making it, I noticed he was trying to scoop something out of the mix with his spoon. He repeated it several times and I finally asked him what he was doing. He told me he was trying to get a hair out of the mix. He tried a couple more attempts to capture it with the spoon and finally gave up and went and got another set up to start over. When our dinners finally came, none of us had silverware. He acknowledged that and excused himself to go get us some. We sat looking at our plates of hot food for almost 5 minutes before I was finally able to catch the attention of another worker and requested they bring us silverware so we could eat. Needless to say, our food was not piping hot by the time we finally got to eat it. When our waiter did return, he had no silverware. The food was not that great and the service was snarky and slow. When we finally got the bill, he pointed out to me that we had been charged for two table-side guacamoles, but assured me that one of them had been comp'd. Are you kidding me? That should never even have been a consideration to charge me for guacamole that had hair in it. It was an absolutely horrible experience. I left the restaurant feeling angry and, at the same time, wanting to cry because I was so upset.
Awful to-go service. Ordered online thinking that would be faster. It was not. Had I not already paid online I would have left without my salad. I am not sure what has happened at OTB. We use to go here for lunch a lot but the whole place seems to have gone downhill. Very sad.
I'm in Tyler somewhat frequently for business. Went out to have dinner and thought I would go to OTB, as I generally like it. Never been to this location. First impressions are everything. I sat at the bar. The bartender was not friendly nor was she good about making sure if I needed anything. I ordered a beer, queso, and a fajita salad. The salad was mediocre at best. It's not hard to make a decent salad but they failed. It looked like someone had already ate half my salad. Presentation was terrible. The chicken had little flavor. It sure wasn't worth the price. $25 later for everything I ordered, and neither the food nor service were good. Should have went to Taco Bell and bought a six pack. It would have been cheaper and better.
As soon as we walked through the door, we waited for 15 minutes with no hostess at sight, should’ve judged from that very moment the service would be total garbage. We decided to sit ourselves at the bar, barley got checked up, and no chip nor salsa refills. As we went to pay not one, or two, but three times our credit card was mixed up and charged to the wrong bill. I proceeded to ask for a manager and turns out I was already dealing with a “supervisor” as he called himself. I demanded to get my money back, and that was accomplished, but if this is who you are relying on to represent a leader and trust your business.. you need to have a hell of a lot better training provided or get someone that is able to accomplish this job. Absolutely terrible experience, would not recommend.
Our visit was on Saturday at lunch. They were very short staffed and we had to wait for a table even though there were many open tables and booths. Not really anything to change the # of staff, can't force people to work. The food was just good not great. Prices have gone up considerably. We had 2 adults and a preschool child in our party. No adult beverages were ordered and our bill was $51.We have no plans to return.
On The Border Mexican Grill & Cantina has good food and good prices you should check it out yourself
So my husband and I NORMALLY have great experiences when coming to On The Border but tonight BRITANNIA (the manager on duty) must have had a bad day because her CUSTOMERS SERVICE SUCKED! We ordered guacamole as we always do and the description clearly states how it comes. They brought us mashed up avocado with none of what the description noted in it. When I brought it to her attention she told me that's how it comes. I then stated it should come as it is described and I asked her to just fix it according to how it is described. She displayed a major ATTITUDE, (which was uncalled for.) It should NEVER be an issue to accommodate what a menu outlines. The picture shows the ingredients which should have been in the guacamole. Very unprofessional and disappointing!
The establishment was not very busy, and yet it took over 30 min. For myself and 2 others to get a Togo order. I did place my order after I arrived but one lady just needed queso dip and it was at least fifteen min. Before she was able to get her order. Maybe this is not typical and I just arrived at a bad time. Or a bad day but I would expect, and I gone the expect the service to be more expedited.
Food was pretty decent, and service was about average. Server had a smile and was competent while performing her duties. I'd recommend the restaurant strictly because it was good average service and a pretty tasty meal. Meal was delightful minus the fact that my steak meat was way overcooked, and just a touch on the hard side when it came to chewing through it. On the other hand, my tacos AL carbon was a good meal. My wife had the chimichanga and said it was very good.My reasons for the 2 star rating are as follows: #1- the handicapped parking is off to the left of the front entrance and quite a further walk than it would be if those spots were directly in front of the entrance. Instead the "to go" parking spots are directly in front of the entrance. REALLY?? This is not desirable for my current situation since I'm handicapped from an accident at work. #2- the young lady who seated us ended up being our server, which was fine, except she sat my crippled butt at a table that off balance and super wobbly. To fix the wobblyness someone tried to cram napkins under 2 of legs. This didn't even come close to working. I almost fell while trying to get up using the table for support. So without the restaurants approval, I grabbed our belongs and set up on a different table.Give OTB a try. It's a great place except for the reasons I stated above, and if you sign up for the queso club, you get free queso for a year. Who doesn't love free food. I know this fat boy does.
