What a great find! Very good prices for an upscale but casual place. Everyone was friendly. Fast service. Had snapper meal and husband had fish and chips (cod). Both were excellent. Located in the Cumberland Mall area. We will be back!
We are not from Tyler so we wanted to try this place. It was really good food but we got stuck in the patio area that would normally be open. They cover the opens with rolling shades and some thin curtains. They also have small fans and A/C units but that doesn’t help. Three of the four A/C units are in the wrong place, they should all be along the “hot wall”. The hot wall being the wall where all the openings with shades and curtains are and the fans don’t really do anything. They also need better fans and would help to also have a few more of them. This was for dinner and we got seated against the front side of the restaurant that faces west. It stays hot and you just can’t enjoy the good food. We will go back but will not be sitting in the “patio” area if it is hot outside.
We had heard a lot of good stuff about FD’s and during my first visit the firecracker shrimps confirmed the words, but the later order was not as good as expected. I ordered mainly the serious and the shrimps were not properly cleaned before coming. :( crawfish tasted good as well as the salmon but the order was delivered in multiple turns which killed the appetite. I can understand it could have been due to crowded hours but a good restaurant should be able to manage the quality during rush hours as well. That’s a key point that we missed during our first visit.
I ate at FD's Grillhouse on June 5, 2022.I came in right at the end of dinner rush. Google Maps said that they weren't too busy, but close to 15-18 people were walking in right as I was pulling up. I settled myself in for a wait, because I hadn't made reservations, but luckily, all those people were two big parties and required big tables, so I was able to get seated at a standard booth right away.Austin, my server, was on the ball. The restaurant was full, and he was obviously busy, but I was never neglected. Sometimes it's easy to neglect a lone diner in favor of big tables, because the tip won't be as high from that lone guy. I get that. But a good server will make sure everyone they're responsible for is having a good dinner. And Austin was a good server. I tipped him accordingly. The restaurant itself was rather full, but the lighting was down and the music subdued, so people were able to talk without raising their voices. So, even though the place was full of people, it wasn't rowdy or noisy.I started out with a Banshee pinot noir, which was amazing. I usually don't take special note of the wines I try, beyond making mental notes for my review, but this one was so good I sent myself a text to buy it later for the wine cabinet. The deviled egg appetizer was a nice homey touch. I've had 'gourmet' deviled eggs with wasabi or other stuff in them. And I like those just fine, but these were good old fashioned deviled eggs like grandma used to make. The bacon bit on top was just crispy enough with just a touch of chew, without being over-done, hard, or brittle. It's hard to mess up a filet, but believe it or not, I've gotten some bad cuts in other restaurants. My steak at FD's was tender, well-seasoned, and perfectly cooked throughout. It practically melted in my mouth. I'm not exaggerating when I say that I've had some homestyle breads that were harder to chew. The matchstick vegetables were zucchini, yellow squash, and carrots and appeared steamed. Soft, but a touch al dente. The preparation was simple, without too much done to them. But they were delicious. The potato was 'fully loaded', but here that seems to mean "butter, sour cream and cheese". There were no chives or bits of bacon. But I don't mind that so much. The potato was fresh and delicious, and had plenty of butter--sometimes, you end up with a dry potato because they give you about half the butter you need to moisten the whole thing. It was well-washed before cooking, too. I like to eat the skins--which I know not everyone does--and sometimes, you can get a bit of sand grit if the restaurant has not thoroughly washed the potato before cooking. Mine was perfect.Everything was so delicious that I didn't leave a scrap on my plate.
The only reason it’s 2 stars and not one is that our waitress was awesome and the drinks were real good. However, this place was a mess. The seats of the booth we sat at were ripped in multiple places and were completely sagging and worn out. The men’s bathroom was trashed. It was as filthy as any truck stop bathroom I’ve ever had the displeasure of seeing. There was no excuse - this place was busy, but there were a LOT of employees working at this location. There’s no excuse for seats that looked this way or bathrooms that are this filthy.
I typically sit at the bar when I dine in and I have had the pleasure of meeting the most personable and amazing bartender, KJ. He is always prompt with service/greeting my guest and I and always remembers my drink of choice and meal before I even get the chance to order. I appreciate knowing that he cares about his customers and not just another dollar. He is GREAT attribute to FD's and one of the main reasons I continue to visit this location!!
The staff are professional and friendly. The salmon and steaks were great! Martini and Margaritas delish! Love the trio dip app!
This place was very nice. Very clean and designed well. Our server was great. Very nice and attentive. The was was very good too. My only complaint is the place was freezing. No reason to have the place that cold. Its not even summer yet. It was uncomfortable. I guess Ill add that my server didnt seem satisfied with my $10 tip. It was my wife, my son and me. I mean what else do you want? Something is better than nothing.
Everything was great, from the food to the service. We had the sirloin and crab cake special along with the amazing firecracker shrimp. Our server was also amazing.
I love this place, the food is always great, BUT the drinks are AMAZING, I tried a different one the UBERITA, the name I'm told is because you will need an Uber to get home?. Our waitress was fantastic, the quality of care was spot on considering how many tables she had. I will be back soon
