Three years ago I went to Cheeves for dinner. The food was good, very over priced, and came with extraordinary delays. This week I tried again. The restaurant still serves good food, at highly expensive prices. Once again, after getting drinks and the appetizer, the main course serving was delayed by one hour and 15 minutes. Cheeves occupies the top price category in Temple Texas. From my experience, I feel that prices are very unreasonably high, and the issue of being left unattended with lengthy delays during dinner is unacceptable. I will look for another choice for future high end dining.
My Boss and I were traveling to Central Texas for the week with work. We enjoyed different meals at local small businesses, we chose to have steak tonight, in lieu of a traditional chain restaurant we picked Cheeves Bros. Steakhouse, the environment was nice, no wait for a table, somewhat wait for service but understood that several parties were seated at the same time, we ordered our steaks a filet mignon, and a NY Strip steak with sides, both cooked perfectly, appearance flawless, and great taste. The strip and sides were very tasteful and perfect. The filet mignon however not even a quarter of the way in my boss pulled out a long hair from his steak, he stopped eating disgusted at what he found, explained and showed the server the hair, she was very sympathetic to what he found, and went to discuss what was found with the back staff, he was offered another steak, but at this point he was beyond displeased. A different server asked my boss again if he wanted another steak to which he was polite and simply stated he had lost his appetite and not interested in trying another steak. I had finished my meal very awkwardly while our server returned again offered my boss another steak and apologized, and offered an excuse from the back staff that it wasn't a hair he had found, but in fact a basting brush used on the steaks. Already disgusted this did nothing but make the matter worse. We were done and bill was given to us, my bosses steak was not charged and removed, only charged for his drink and side. We travel and dine out for several weeks on end and this has been the most unsettling experience we have had in what we considered a very upscale establishment in the Temple area. No fault to our server, but definitely not handled well with the management of the establishment. I only hope others did not have a similar experience we did.
Best steakhouse within 200 or more miles. Absolutely delicious. We had the dinner for two which included a 10oz and 6oz filet, shareable side, we chose the mashed potatoes!, salad or soup we both opted for salads, and a dessert. We went with Creme Brûlée. Everything item was fantastic, service was fantastic and I ordered flowers for my wife, we were celebrating anniversary number 38! Highly recommend!
Date night was a success! First time & did not disappoint. We were greeted with the door open & immediately seated. Our waitress Valerie went above & beyond! As soon as we were seated she was right there, her humor & conversation was delightful. She had excellent wine choices for me & picked the perfect bourbon for the SO. We will be coming back all thanks to the atmosphere, food, hosts, & of course Valerie.
Very much worth the visit! Reasonably priced and very methodical dining, with attention to details, such as padded soft tables. The Greek salad is the best, can’t wait to try the Waldorf next time! The steak was cooked beautifully and the veggie pasta settled into my stomach with no regret. The left over pasta I took home was still warm by the time we got back to the house. Don’t pass this place up!! Save on a list for later if you come across this and can’t go, you’ll be happy you did.
The food was amazing but I'm giving it a 3 only because the table was so wobbly my husband and I would have to hold our wine glasses and glasses of water while we cut our steak. They sat us right by the front door which is a horrible dinning experience for the money they expect their customers to pay. Get better tables that actually have a hard top and not cushion. I know they can afford better tables. The waitress was great, but the table and being right by the front door ruined it.
Food was good, everything is al a carte, but a variety of choices. Got the seafood fondue and dinner for 2 and it was more than enough. I had wished the roasted mushrooms had a bit of sauce with it. We were not a fan of where we sat. Right by bathroom, but we could see there was a great atmosphere throughout the rest of the restaurant. Our server was great! Not sure Id go back for dinner, but would love to try their lunch menu.
Such a beautiful restaurant and excellent food! Try the beef Wellington for a great app, the the red fish and of course the truffle Mac n cheese. And ask for Valerie to be your server. She’s amazing ? and made our night! Highly recommend this restaurant and Valerie ⭐️
Nice place. Dress policy seems to not be that important. Great service. Food it's ok. Not wow.
Excellent food and service
