Located near the old mall area of the island, this hole in the wall place has some great options for everyone in the family no matter what you like. There are mexican, seafood, and Italian options along with some American staples but the standout was the blackened fish tacos. Plenty of zest and flavor and a great take on the coastal seafood item.Waiters and staff were on point and our waitress, Jessica I believe, was outstanding and had a great hospitable air that really made the atmosphere feel like you were eating a home cooked meal with friends. All in all, a perfect experience when it comes to family dining and well worth the wait if you happen to be at the Island. Keep it up!
I would like to recommend this place. My family and I had dinner today!! Got some fish tacos and they were Yummy ?. Prices are really affordable and the service was awesome.I'll be there tomorrow night AGAIN.
Very clean and great service..but, the fish n shrimp plates my wife and I ordered looked really good. Too bad the fish, though crispy and large was somehow not very cooked under the crust. I feel that the oil is too hot and the fish needed at least another minute or two cooking ( at a lower temp as not to burn the breading). They do have very tasty enchiladas though if not into fish. We had the same undercooked issue on the fish in the past bit has hoped the issue had been addressed. Unfortunately not.
Very nicely spiced shrimp tacos. Modest interior of the restaurant hides good food. Casual seafood and Mexican dishes.
Delicious food and great prices. We enjoyed every bite of our meals and the servers were very kind and friendly. Definitely recommend
Fantastic don't miss spot. Blackened fish tacos are fantastic. Be sure to enjoy some fumi salad. Waitstaff was excellent.
Went in with my family and we felt very welcomed. My son loved joking with the staff. Loved the atmosphere and decor. Places like this are the best small and more personal. The Mariachi shrimp nachos were amazing. Thanks for the great service. This has been a great start for our Spring break.
While Captain Roy"s isn't a fancy place, rather it is neat restaurant with a fishing motif, it is a place for great food. We had a stuffed jalapeño as an appetizer which was great, Mexican tacos which were the best I ever had and the seafood plate for a good price. We will be back
My wife and I checked out a few restaurants in South Padre Island online before our visit. We ranked several based on their menus, reviews, etc. Cap'n Roy's was the highest ranked on our list. We couldnt wait to try it. My wife was especially excited about their award winning shrimp, and I had my eye on a tasty sounding fish dish. Unfortunately, this turned out to be our most disappointing meal during our week on SPI. When we arrived, the parking lot was mostly empty. That probably should have been our hint to reconsider. However, we parked and went in. We stood near the front for a time, wondering if we should wait to be seated or seat ourselves. We saw some employees but apparently they did not see us, even though it wasnt busy, so we eventually found our own table. After a time, a server brought us menus. The award winning shrimp was covered up with white paper and not available. No problem. My wife ordered a shrimp platter. The fish dish I had eyed did not look as appetizing when there so I opted instead for the special which was fajitas and enchiladas. The food came quickly, which was nice. On my plate were 2 small enchiladas, a spoon of rice, spoon of refried beans,a few pieces of chopped lettuce, a slice of tomato, and a bit of fajita meat. The enchiladas were very spicy, but good. As I mentioned, they were small and not much beef filling but tasted fine. The rice was good. Beans ok. The fajita meat was a bit cold and tough but had good flavor. However, all I received was the meat. Fajitas that I have ordered in the past have always come with the meat mixed with grilled peppers, onions, and tortillas. This was just meat. There was enough food overall, but very small portions of everything and only done so-so. My wife's shrimp platter was likewise small on the portions. Only a few shrimp, which she said were cold and tasted dirty and not fresh. A few fries and a fumi salad rounded out her plate. The prices were ok and the servers were friendly enough after we seated ourselves. It was just a very strange experience, middling food, and really disappointing overall. There are tons of places to eat in SPI so no reason to go back to this restaurant.
Food was average. Choose this restaurant as everything else on the island was packed no surprise there. First thing they couldn't accommodate our party of 10 at the same table so my husband, children, and I sat apart from sister and her family YET we were still charged a gratuity fee for a service that was below average three waitresses all attended our table and when we asked for anything we got a attitude from them. Fried Fish seemed fresh, tea was watered down, nothing I would go back for.
