I have seen this restaurant many times driving from Austin and decided to give it a try. I got there about an hour before closing and they had just run out of brisket. I went ahead and ordered chicken and sausage, which were both very reasonably priced. I didn't try any of the sides this time. The sausage had a great flavor and texture and the chicken was well seasoned and very moist. I would definitely order them again. The restaurant was clean, cool and comfortable.
Some of the best brisket I’ve had. Tender, moist, just the right amount of fat and a phenomenal bark. The sausage (regular and jalapeño) was delicious but a little more dense than I prefer. The mac & cheese was on the spicy side which gave it a really great flavor. Coleslaw was excellent as well. All in all I wholeheartedly recommend this is a place to go for barbecue when you’re in San Marcos, Texas!
Brisket was good.Sausage was good.Pork chop was great.Turkey was FANTASTIC!
Came here with the family and had an amazing experience!! Amazing meats and sweet tea!! Grab a tray grab some apps and go to counter for the meets!
Brisket had good flavor. Very dry. Sausage was cold. Bread was crumbling. Won’t return.
Best in Texas barbecue! Great atmosphere and always feel welcome. Yum!
The staff is excellent, but the restaurant seems disfuntional. Parking is adequate. Once you enter the door is where it becomes stupid. For the price you would expect better. From the way the sides are displayed before you order in a case in styrofoam containers, to the hard to read menu, to the way the order line is set up, well, the disfuntional nature is all on whoever set up the restaurant. All the sides were in small containers, hot or cold. The meat was average, but with two types of BBQ sauce it was tolerable. For the overall experience and high end price I really expected much better. I fully understand the style of the service here, I eat BBQ all over the State.... The Staff was knowledgeable and did a good job.
This was our 2nd visit - and we will be back again. Super service, very pleasant and really good at what they do. Nice clean place, with a great back patio. Has picnic tables, Adirondack chairs around a fire pit, umbrellas over the picnic tables. The brisket was yum, as was the pork ribs. The sausage was fine, just not as flavorful as husband and kids would have liked. Really good mac n cheese, green beans & potato salad. Last time I tried the twice baked potatoes salad and really enjoyed it.Forgive my photos. We were hungry and forgot until it was nearly half finished! Lol
the good:i had the beef rib, although the rib was smaller than i usually see at TX BBQ joints, it was a healthy cut, yielding 0.6 pounds bone in. the rib was well cooked, tender with a very mild smoke.the mediocre: pinto beans were just a bit undercooked, in a very watery bean liquid/jus.the bad: i was excited for the hatch green chili mac and cheese! unfortunately its not good, rotini noodles swimming in a watery cheese sauce with a sprinkle of green chilis (likely canned) with out much flavor.shout out to the friendly staff, which can be hard to find these days.all in all, it was a fair to good experience. i’ll stop in again, hopefully they can get the sides improved before i stop in again.
I met some family members here. I had the brisket and it was tender & very good. The BBQ sauce I had was good. I enjoyed the potato salad. I tried the spicy Jalapeños sausage and it didn't work for me so I would suggest the regular sausage. I also had a root beer that was great. The place is nice with lots of parking and the staff were nice. Give this place a try. Do be prepared to pay. It's more than likely the most I have ever paid for BBQ.
