First thing: I could not place a to go order by phone. Why? Okay, so I drive to the Hunter Road location and the fish plates offered on site and on the menu are totally different than what is listed in the web site menu. When was the last time it was updated? The girl behind the counter looked to be fifteen or so years old and spoke with a soft and timid voice. I am not angry or even surprised, but I will not be back.
The food is AWESOME! We had the gizzards and chicken. The lady who took our order also worked the window......she was not very friendly. I felt like we were bothering her. The condiment sauce station, fountain drink area station, kitchen area and restaurant in general needs cleaning. The kitchen is out in the open and customer's can see everything. The restrooms were dirty. I'll be back...but next time take my food to go.
For the first time in a long time I was delighted to have fresh made fried chicken, hot and juicy. Their biscuits were very good, warm and soft. Hopefully staying like this for future orders
Heading to San Antonio...had to make the stop. 7 piece tenders with two sides of that creamy Mac 'n' cheese plus a large mac..yea..that'll do it

Tried Gills two weeks ago for dinner and it was delicious. I decided I would have it for lunch today and what a difference. I arrived a little before the lunch rush and if I didn't know any better, I believe they were serving yesterday's leftovers. Not fresh or crispy like my first visit. Two star average because my first visit was very good - one star for today.
Gills is my favorite to spot out of town. I ordered the 7 piece chicken tender with that creamy Mac n cheese on the side. Not to forget the Lil finger biscuits they have..and the gravy..well,..everything for the most part goes into that or gets dipped.worth the trip each and every time!
Fish was great and a member in our group ordered chicken and she said it also tasted good. Now we ordered the large fish plate, 10 pieces and didn't count until a couple were ate and started counting and only received 6. So be sure and receive what you ordered.
The food is tasty don't get me wrong and the long wait surprisingly doesn't bother me due to the food being good. That being said, I'm not a fan of everything I order being shoved into one box so that everything becomes one. Not a fan of trying to eat a piece of fried chicken tender and because everything is slammed in the box, the skin and everything is falling off of it. I know it's being picky but honestly I'm not trying to eat a mess.
First time here - food was great. However - ordered 2 piece dark (all thighs) mashed potatoes and fried okra. Received a breast and a leg, and french fries ILO fried okra. Wasn't very busy - just new staff I think.
