Had my Menudo fix there, and I love the place and will be back! Great chow at reasonable prices, nice atmosphere...
Several friends have told me that Chepo's was "so good" and one of thier favorite places in San Marcos. Following my visit today, I've determined that my friends must be weirdos that doesnt know what Mexican food should taste like. Chepo's isn't it!First and foremost - for a Mexican food restaurant to be good, it must have good salsa. Chepo's salsa tastes like watery tomato sauce. Not good... Chips were stale and are the cheap restaurant supply variety.I got the beef fajita plate. The meal came with about 6 small pieces of blackened and overly charred meat barely enough to make one taco. Lucky I also got about 4 slivers of grilled onion that I could add to the one taco and that really helped me swallow. Besides being burnt and so tough I had difficulty chewing, it just didn't taste good. Almost no seasoning and very bland. The refried beans were similar in that they were very bland with no discernible seasonings other than lard. The rice was surprisingly good however and it was kind of unique. Unfortunately, I'm not a big rice lover and it was nowhere near enough to make up for the rest of the food.Service was just ok.
I come here often for breakfast tacos, and they are delicious every time. The homemade corn tortillas are amazing! Soft, flavorful, and hold up well. What more could I ask for? Thank you for serving our community, Chepo's ♡
Great breakfast and staff is awesome!
Good service, food was good, inexpensive, ambience nice. No wait either. Will be coming back
Love this place. Great staff, friendly. Great food too
Chepos is AWESOME! Best breakfast in San Marcos/Wimberley.
Man, I really wanted to like this place. But it stinks! Literally! I live in an old house close by and my house smelled like that too when we moved in. Like an old dirty cabinet. But after cleaning everything the smell went away. So that just tells me that they don’t clean there. I ordered food anyway (wish I hadn’t, I should have listened to my instinct about the smell) and it was disappointing. The taco salad looked like something you’d get at taco cabana for half the price (oh yeah, everything was super expensive) and the al pastor taco was inedible. Not that the server seemed to care, they didn’t even ask if I liked the food when obviously I’d only taken one bite of the taco, still paid for it anyway. Needless to say I won’t be returning. Gotta take a shower now to wash that smell off me. Barf.
The tacos here are fine. Not really another way to describe it. The salsa is quite bland (getting beaten even by the coffee shop next door), and the tacos are pretty small for the price. The al pastor was very dry and chewy, and the asada was fine at best. Go down to Laura's for much better quality.
Was in town for a few days....one of the best breakfasts I had while there
