The place is really a blast from the past. Nice outdoor seating area. Inside the AC is amazing. The food was good, but not worth the cost. It was just a basic breakfast that you can get in other places. The biscuits are almost like slices of cake. The gravy was good. Upstairs there was a shop and a small museum. Really interesting way to restore a house and repurpose it.
Terrific experience at The Gunther House. Everyone enjoyed their meal.Ate outside and was somewhat concerned that it would be hot (June in south Texas) but the shade and breeze made it very comfortable.A memorable experience with the family!
I attempted to eat breakfast here five years ago at 9am on the weekend, and I was told it would be a two and half hour wait, so I've avoided returning for too long. If you can manage to visit around 8am on a weekday then there's zero wait. There's both inside and outside seating. The tables were reasonably set apart from each other. It gets really loud with everyone's conversations inside because each room is fairly small. The menu is tiny for breakfast, but the food is amazing. Everything came out perfectly cooked. Our waiter was attentive and kind. I regret waiting so long to finally eat here.
The service was wonderful. The food was tasty. I had the tacos with scrambled eggs, bacon and cheese. They were quite nice but I would say, if you order them I think they heated with a flamethrower. Lol Open them up immediately when you get them and let them cool off. It took like 5 minutes. My friend ordered biscuits and gravy she said while it was good It also mostly tasted like a white sauce rather than sausage. Now for the reason that you go the ambience. It truly is lovely but you must go upstairs to use the restrooms and check out the cute store with kitchen items and the tiny museum. Overall a nice experience.
We went for breakfast. The bacon was excellent. The pancakes and eggs were good. The biscuit was dry. Overall not bad. Service was great. Cool experience
The wait time always seems to be long but the grounds are beautiful and free coffee is offered while you wait. There is cornhole to play as well and the restaurant will text you when you’re table is ready so you can leave and come back. There is both indoor and outdoor seating. The temperature inside is quite cold. Several patrons left to go grab sweaters from their cars. I just ate fast because it was a little uncomfortable for me.The food was good. It’s not great but it is good and reasonably priced. I believe diners come here for the ambiance more than the food. The grounds are gorgeous and there is a charming gift shop to browse while you wait.
The atmosphere and service here were both very nice. The food for breakfast however was nothing special (I had both the biscuit & gravy platter and the strawberry waffle).I didn't find anything better in a couple days in SA though so I'd still recommend it. Followed by a stroll around the nearby King William Historic District.I waited about 20 minutes for a table on a Friday morning at 9. You can spend the time walking around the courtyard and nearby shop and they'll text you when your table's ready.
Delicious breakfast. Worth the over an hour wait. They are understanding if you wander away - we put our names down and then came back. Food service was fast. Food was excellent. The sweet cream on our waffles was delicious. The chicken links tasted so good (almost like pork!). Would definitely come again when we visit.
Best biscuits ever, with peppery sausage gravy and / or with jalapeño jam. Both outdoor and indoor seating.
