I remembered seeing the "Hall of Horns and Fins" collection when it was owned by the Lone Star brewery, so I thought I'd check it out again. First, while it is an impressive collection, it is not worth $25 (including sales tax which Texas for some reason charges on the admission price). Second, I felt very ambivalent about seeing the mounted heads of magnificent animals such as elephants and tigers. Third, the Texas Rangers museum was dull and a big disappointment. I did not have any food or drink from the saloon, so my rating is only for the museum.
To start first, the restaurant is okay, not bad. If you're eating here you're coming for the atmosphere. What really makes this place shine is the museum. This museum is by far one of my favorite museums I've ever seen. So much detailed and fascinating history is covered and captured here. I'd highly recommend this museum to anyone and I'd probably come back again.
Ok... its the most touristy thing you could probably do in San Antonio. Overall it almost boarders on tacky... and without hesitation I would do it again!!! I loved everything about it AND the collection of memorabilia from the Texas Rangers is outstanding! So... if you have a thing for history, law enforcement, shrunken heads and stuffed animals ( very impressive collection) I highly recommend stopping in. Staff was friendly and the food not bad at all. Oh... and Buffalo Bill's doppelganger greets you at the ticket booth.
Great food, drinks and history. Be sure to check out the museum, totally worth it especially if you're from Texas
very entertaining lots of things to look at, would recommend buying 2 beers to go through it
Great museum and great beer.
We loved it! As a family we all definitely enjoyed it! My little boy is 3 and he had so much fun seeing all the different animals! Definitely worth the price! From my oldest to my youngest we all enjoyed this place! We also had lunch here afterwards and it was good!
We had a great experience at this museum! I highly recommend visiting if you're passing through or visiting The Alamo.
A hidden gem…..right in downtown SA - especially for those who are interested in taxidermy and/or TX Rangers history. I can see how this place seems like a tourist trap but if you’re into weird old taxidermy, you’ll LOVE it here! Tons and tons of crazy and exotic taxidermy pieces…gorgeous rattler art, a cabinet of curiosities, and a ton of TX Ranger history. I absolutely loved it here! Fabulous San Antonio history - my favorite piece was “The Guard”. Look out for him!
Awesome place. Bar staff are great. Atmosphere is great.
