Ok, just a few words bout the Old Smokehouse.......It reminds of the way BBQ use too be, BBQ back in the good ole days....!Broke down inside and out and hot ? as hell, people sitting and eating while sweating. No air conditioner and the fans don't always blow air, so don't even bother setting under them. These places seemingly have the very best BBQ simply cause they put the money into the food, so the Old Smokehouse is definitely on point...The meat was full of that smoky down home flavor, flavor you could taste clearly in every bite...And the young man slicing the meat AKA Big Smokie, let us sample every piece with BBQ sauce on the side.....Wow talk about service, now that's service over the top.....Crazy I usually take a pic of the food when sharing my dining experiences, but I forgot cause it was absolutely incredible........ ?We will be headed back on tomorrow to pick up some ribs, so I'll drop a pic then.......LolWell here you go went back to get those ribs and decided to get more brisket to, this is scrumptious dinning at it's best......!Definitely adding the Old Smokehouse to my dinning list, when I'm visiting San Antonio......
This is the place to come for awesome smoked meats! The brisket was succulent and delicious. The flavor stands on its own even not using the bbq sauce. The other amazing smoked meat is their signature smoked lamb ribs. Juicy and delicious! That made my mouth VERY happy!!Ohhh and the sides of Slaw and Potato Salad, were a great match to a delicious meal!
Ok brisket. Pretty dry and flavorless, as you can see from the picture, not much of a smoke ring. Sweet tea tasted like raspberry, very strong and unexpected. Pintos had a super strong tomato flavor. Coleslaw was really sweet.
Decided to try it out as you can't go to Texas without getting bbq. Started out promising as we walked in and the smoke was prevalent. SO much so where it's probably not a good idea to try to eat in there as it's just too smoky but it smelled good. That's where it ended. Got the ribs. They weren't bad but weren't great esp charging by the pound and it was tough and the sauce is watery. Also got the potato salad and whoever told them that was good lied to them. That was not potato salad. Ok, you don't want to do southern style potato salad but the potatoes weren't salted, not enough mayo. It was just bad all the way around.
Was so upset i walked out with my whole plate.. There are just too many things to complain about but for whats its worth the chicken was on point bc the brisket wasn't..THATS IT! BEWARE OF THE DRINK STATION ? and bring a gas mask if you plan on dining in bc the restaurant is filled with BBQ smoke.
Ok... let me tell you how it went...when I saw it from out side it looked like part of the retail... but the smell out was drawing me in...And as I walked in.. you're transported into a Old Smoke.. and had a lot of room.. walk to the back to take your order. And the food came out... and mouth started to water. The food was amazing. Overall experience all I can say is wow...I'll definitely come back... check out my photos... and hope to see y'all there.
Came here to grab some lunch with friends.Had amazing brisket and pulled pork sandwiches. Couldn't get enough of the BBQ sauce the make. Definitely grab some extra napkins when you can
You have to love a BBQ place that has a smokestack that is bellowing a rich aroma. I have been here many times over the years and the brisket and sausage always pleases. We tried the half chicken and it was moist and tasty. Not disappointed by the beans and coleslaw but almost surprised by how good the green beans were on Sunday. We ordered enough for four and there was plenty left-over. Definitely the place to go in that neighborhood. Authentic BBQ!
Been eating here for years. Good food. But brisket needs to be better trimmed. At bar b que prices, I expect lean.
good was great and portions were good. staff if friendly and the food doesn't take forever to come out. been here several times and will keep coming back
