Great food. Great customer service. Sorry to hear that they are closing at the end of July.

How do they get the chicken to taste that good and crispy!! Now I want to go every day until they close permanently.

I watched Texas Eats when they reviewed this restaurant showing the fried chicken, smothered meatloaf & smothered steak. Wanted to visit because the smothered steak sounded good. Went online to search Mr & Mrs G’s but they have no website but Google listed the restaurant & after reviewing the menu, I didn’t see the smothered steak? so I called & the lady said smothered steaks only on Thursdays today being Saturday. I figured I go anyway & get the smothered meatloaf. They open at 11am & I got there at 1:30p & they said they ran out of smothered meatloaf. I said u just opened a few hours ago.. wow. Got the smothered pork chop with gumbo n pinto beans & a corn muffin. They never mentioned any two meat deals & just gave me a single chop. The ice is in a bucket with a ladle to scoop to ur cup. Cost $16.51. They serve it in a to go styrofoam container & I sat in the dining room to eat. My table was a bit wobbly & trying to cut the pork chop was tricky in the styrofoam container on a wobbly table but I managed. It was a pretty tasty meal. I guess if u want something specific u better call 1st & then u better be first in the door when it opens or it’ll likely be ate up cuzz once it’s gone they ain’t got no more. I wanna come back Thursday & try the smothered steak which was the meal that I saw that made me want to go there in the first place. It’s on the SE side of San Antonio being a long drive if u live on the north side at loop 1604.

Stopped in today and the place smells so bad. I got two dinners to go and when I got home and tasted the smothered chicken, it was old, the cabbage was blan and the greens were not fresh. The food was in plastic bags in the pans. I will never eat there again. As my husband and I were leaving, there was a big cockroach crawling up the wall. The health inspectors need to visit and shut this place down. I would give less than one star if it was possible.

Was not impressed. Immediately upon walking in the establishment was a terrible odor. I took a chance and got a plate anyway. One bite and the food went straight in the trash, it was horrible. I also got a sweet tea and took one swallowed and told the waitress I can not drink it because the water tasted as if it literally came from a well in the backyard. I will never in this lifetime patronize this restaurant and I highly recommend you don’t either. I truly believe the Health Department should pay them a visit!

The service, staff, food and the environment was great ?

Just forget what you're planning for lunch and get over here. I randomly passed this place while running errands on a very hungry stomach and, let me tell you, this is a hit! The fried chicken wowed me from the very first bite, the cornbread is good, the rice woth gravy was fantastic, and the Mac and cheese was everything I expected. I tore into my delicious meal too quickly to stop and take a decent photo! They make their own vinegar hot sauce from peppers that Mr. G pickled before he passed and it's wonderful! I will absolutely be back here and will he bringing folks with me. Well done, y'all!

Greens, cabbage and yams are so yummy. The place is old and does have an old smell to it like other reviews mention but it's one of the best places I know for soul food.

I love this place. Good food, great folks. Restroom was clean always. I love the blacked eyed peas and the fried chicken so far. Next time going to try the yummy looking meatloaf.

Authentic home cooking served by friendly staff. A return visit is a must. ?
