After living in Georgia and eating real Southern dishes...Finally tried Mama Lou's and it was really delicious. The greens were seasoned perfectly, the candy yams sweet and fresh... the lightly breaded catfish was fresh and delicious. Everything was served hot not lukewarm which I so appreciate. I will go back again to try some other dishes and sides.
I read some positive reviews about Mamma Lou's and decided to give it a try. Chicken is one of my favorite foods so I was very hopeful. I ordered a 12 piece meal with Mac & Cheese and green beans. They had no Mac & Cheese so I substituted fried okra. Everything was fresh and hot. Chicken and okra crispy outside and soft inside. Green beans were extra salty, too salty to eat. Which is odd because the chicken and the okra were very bland, no evidence of spices mixed with the coatings. The okra was full of oil, I tried a few on my way home, my hand was so oily and they didn't provide any napkins. Which is odd because it's a chicken place. Napkins are always necessary when eating fried chicken. The shining item is the corn bread. Very tasty and moist. I will probably have to pass on this location in the future.
The dinner today! 2 meat chicken dinner, greens and Mac and cheese was delicious. So good I am pinching off it to make sure I have some for tonight.Don’t sleep this restaurant. The very best soul food in town. Thank you for being open. Thank you!
Very good!!!! I'm a true southern boy who knows how to cook from scratch and I can say that this place is #1 restaurant in town for soul food. I got the 2 meat plate fish and pork chops with mash potatoes and Mac and cheese. The fish was seasoned and cooked well. The pork chop had the right amount of breading and was fried just right the meat was nice and moist. I will be back
I drove from Helotes today and I was not disappointed. I am from Shreveport, LA where the southern fried chicken is very common and very good. The ox tail , fried chicken, fried fish was great. It definetly was worth the drive and my pups always love riding in the car. My first time and definitely not the last. It tasted amazing.
First time trying Mana Lou's and it was awesome. The fried chicken was finger licking good, the mac 'n cheese was extra cheesy and the fries were great. Also had corn bread on the side & it was so warm & sweet...mmm. Every bite was wonderful. Definitely going here again & again & again...
We absolutely LOVED the food, reasonable prices and excellent customer service! We had, fried chicken, fried porkshop, and fried catfish with delicious sides candied yams, mac and cheese, fried okra and greens. Ohh let’s not forget our delicious sweet cornbread!!!! Ohhh my!! We found another spot to add to our list! Thank you Mamma Lou’s Soul Food! By the way.. delicious SWEET tea! We HIGHLY recommend this place.
Delicious! Ordered the fried chicken family meal (mixed) with mashed potatoes, mac & cheese, and Greens. Comes with a side of cornbread/dinner rolls.
I ordered the 2 meat plate, picked fried chicken , fried fish, mashed potatoes, green beans,half sweet and unsweetened tea. Added 2 extra sides collard greens ,macaroni and cheese. Honestly everything was really good the taste and flavor were great . Didn't have to add salt or pepper to anything. The only complaint I have is the price is misleading it says 12.50 for the 2 meat combo the only thing it said was no oxtail so I didn't understand why I had a 3 dollar upcharge for the fish. It would be fine if it at least said that some where.
Great food. I was kind of iify to try restaurant. But went ahead and tried it and it was real good. Their catfish was seasoned and it tasted delicious and their cornbread was amazing. Will definitely will be going back
