Service was terrible. Our server Lucy, didn’t want to be at work you could tell. She was not friendly at all, every other server was very friendly but she was having a bad day I guess? But, it’s not a cheap place, so I would think service would be a lot better. This isn’t blanco cafe! Servers are a hell of a lot nicer there. My plate was ok, the “esquite” was literally sweet canned corn…and the “queso chicharrón” was just burnt cheese. The chiles toreados were ice cold. Meat was cooked excellent though!
Food is great! Sitting outside is great many fans going and the oak tree helps keep you cool. Grinds are great!
On a girls’ trip ate at this picturesque restaurant. The patio is the place to sit with large trees providing a lot of shade. The staff is super helpful and the food comes out quickly. I ordered the Arrachera Al Gujillo- skirt steak which comes with potatoes but I substituted grilled vegetables. The steak is marinated and cooked in a flavorful red sauce which I was nervous about ordering but it was amazing, so full of flavor. I would order this every time I go. Friend got Tex Mex beef enchiladas and she rated it 3/5. Good and fresh but not anything special. Both really felt the beans were really good. Other friend had the Old#7 which she also rated 3/5. Nice and fresh but nothing extraordinary. The chips and salsa is now $4 and is average. So overall loved the setting and absolutely loved the skirt steak. It’s a definite yes for me.
My wife had the fajitas, best she's had in awhile. I had the la fonda special, it's a nice selection of the best they have to offer. To top it off we had the pineapple almond cream empanadas for dessert... definitely the highlight of the evening. The waitress was very attentive and knowledgeable about the menu. 10/10 would recommended. We will definitely be frequenting this little gem again in the future.
What an amazing experience we had here at this lovely restaurant. At first, it looked like we might have a little trouble with the seating.. however after speaking to the manager and are awesome table attendant megan, we were so very glad that we chose this place to have our family Easter and to celebrate my birthday! The food and service and the restaurant vibe is just awesome. If you are ever in the area for breakfast lunch or dinner this is a must! Thank you to the staff thank you to the cooks thank you to our wonderful table attendant megan, and everyone involved from allowing us to book our reservation, come in and be seated quickly, and have a wonderful dine-in experience! You're better off going to your local taqueria if you want food with flavor. If you want overpriced food that has as much spice as pureed baby food....then welcome, this will be your new favorite spot!Presentation is great, but the food lacks so much flavor. From the appetizers we received to the entrees. We were so disappointed... The drinks are okay, not bad, not amazing, just okay.There are better places than here if you want to grab some Mexican food in San Antonio. My mami would slap me silly if I gave this to her and called it Mexican food.
Not kid friendly
After traveling for 7 hours and getting the rental car, we needed lunch. After looking at Tripadvisor we found this gem. The food was amazing... the service was amazing... the experience was amazing. So as you can see we loved it. The wife had the best margarita she has ever had, the Top Shelf. The La Fonda Nachos for a appetizer were perfect! So meaty and the flavors were abundant. For the lunch entree, my wife had the Taco Con Caldo and it was perfect. I had the Verdes Enchiladas and loved it. This had to be the best dining experience in all of San Antonio!
The outdoor patio was the perfect setting having come in from Chicago and coupled with amazing an Enchiladas Suizas plate made for a great experience. The margaritas were also great!! Highly recommend this place for ‘eating local’.
Food was not what we anticipated in standard Mexican cuisine. Steak so stringy, we should have used scissors instead of knife. Bean and corn patties- no taste-microscopic amount of cheese, soaked in oil. Before eating I had to squeeze the oil out between paper towels. Spinach salad was tasty. Our server was very pleasant. This restaurant should improve its kitchen.
