This place has amazing food, sushi is on point.
Hands down the best Japanese restaurant we have been to so far in San Antonio. The appetizers were great and my picky kids loved the beef teriyaki and finished it all. The tempura was also great, the batter and sauce were authentic! They were crisp and light! However, the sauce was missing some grated daikon. The sushi were also delicious! It didn’t come with wasabi or pickled ginger as traditionally served. Yakisoba was ok, it needed more flavor. For these reasons, I give it a for 4 stars. We’ll definitely come back though and try other dishes.
Came with my sister, LITERALLY LOVEDDDD. Fast service, wonderful employees, FOOD WAS SCRUMPTIOUS. DEVOURED EVERYTHING, NO CRUMBS LEFT. HAHAH. No but like seriously, it was a wonderful experience coming here ! We literally got full so quick, AND LEMME TELL YALL, the lemonade WAS SO DELICIOUS AND REFRESHING. Keep doing what y’all are doing ! You guys are doing AMAZING. <3
First, let me start off by saying that I love the food. I have been going to the RGV locations for years before moving to SA. My problem is with the service and specifically management. Beginning with a previous visit to pick up a phone order and the manager speaking to me rather inappropriately because I was waiting in the wrong place and she "had important people coming in for a meeting" at a table nearby. Fine, one problem, one time, right? Well, in the past few weeks our orders have been missing items or incorrect. Most recently on Mother's day: ordered online, went to pick up up in person, only to find out when I get home that one of the items was incorrect. I called the restaurant and told them what happened. The employee seemed like she wanted to help me, then put me on hold for a moment. She came back on the phone only to tell me that the manager was very busy and could not speak at the moment. She took me number and said that the manager would call in the afternoon. Days later and still no call as expected. At this point, you are just taking my money and not really caring about the outcome. Again, the food is good, but they seem to have very poor management at this location. Might be time to find a better option.
I went a few days ago,Tuesday night I think and I’m in love with the prices and the sushi. Also the little girl the waitress was so sweet she didn’t miss a thing. and I was surprised because she was the only server there I feel like that’s something kumori needs to fix they’re always out of staff !! And it’s been like this for the past years
Ordered food to go and the food looks like it was sitting out and is super expired. The grey substance in the picture is supposed to be tuna. Fresh tuna should spring back when you touch it and my finger left a dent, also have never seen tuna this color.I called to complain and my options were to have them re-make it and wait an hour and a half or have store credit. There was no way to refund my card. This is the San Antonio Roll and Godzilla Roll.
First, there is no teppan (table grill) at this place calling itself a teppanyaki restaurant. I ordered a lunch dish i thought would be difficult to ruin, a tonkatsu curry donburi (pork cutlet japanese rice bowl), but the pork cutlet was overcooked and drowning until limp in the curry. The shumai should have been steamed but was dry and brown as if heated in an air fryer.
My wife and I were at this place today. We arrived 15 minutes prior to opening and they unlocked the doors 5 minutes late. The food? It has to be the worst meal we have eaten in a long time. The soup fell flat. The meal was cold even through we were the first customers of the day. I feel the food was cooked yesterday. The booth type seats was dirty even though we were the first customers of the day. The waitress couldn’t any questions about the food. The main manager was digging through the trash from yesterday looking for a receipt because a customer asked for a refund. It was like I wasted $51. I could have gotten better Asian food at a fast food restaurant. I guess there was a reason why there wasn’t people waiting for the restaurant to open on a Sunday. I predict the restaurant will not be open in a couple months. Terrible experience.
I take no pleasure in leaving a poor review for kumori. I’ve been coming here for over 7 years after being I traduced to the restaurant by some close friends. We immediately fell in love with the spicy edamame and fried gyoza. The miso soup was hot, and the sushi rolls were always on time and prepared properly. Today, and the last couple visits have been a different experience however. I’m not sure why it’s so difficult, but it drives me crazy to not receive a simple appetizer before the meal! We ordered edamame today and it literally arrived after we had almost finished our meal. Our children ordered the chicken teriyaki and there may have been one drop of teriyaki sauce on it, so dry. We asked for a side of sauce and were told that the kitchen would get it soon; ha, excuse me, waitress, how about you just go back in the kitchen and fill a saucer with teriyaki!! Lastly, we ordered two rolls, which were prepared before the appetizers arrived, but sat on top of the counter for minutes. Again, it seems too simple to just get things in a timely manner. The rolls may have tasted better had we received them promptly after being prepared instead of watching them go stale on the counter. Sadly it’s time to part ways with this once delicious sushi spot,
Kumori Sushi & Teppanyaki is a great little spot of Sonterra. I have come here several times during lunch and it's never too busy to just walk in an grab a seat. Their menu continues to expand with more vegetarian options which is fun to see.Clean restaurant, nice atmosphere, friendly team, and at the bottom line--good food. If you are in the area stop by.
