Wow….believe me, this is completely underwhelmed said with no joy whatsoever. Over the past Memorial Day weekend my husband and I decided to go to Asian Star and having been there before we expected a great experience and excellent food. I am sorry to report that the night we were there parts of the buffet were missing food and other offerings on the buffet looked dried out and old, some of the dishes were not labeled. For example I got what I thought were French fries but turned out to be fish sticks, could be a costly mistake if someone who was allergic to seafood or shellfish took a bite of a fish stick thinking it was French fries. I will grant you that we had arrived an hour prior to their closing time, but It’s one thing to begin breaking down in the back in an area unseen to the customer, but leaving food out to dry under a heat lamp because it near closing and you don’t want to prepare fresh that is going to have to be thrown away isn’t a good look. The absolute worst was the 2 waitresses, (I have included a picture of one of them diligently vacuuming) that came into the room and made a huge show of pulling chairs away from unoccupied tables and cleaning underneath, clearing side tables and finally running the vacuum to make sure we knew they were closing. Message delivered Asian Star, I told my husband we should leave, they were clearly letting us know they wanted to go home and the sooner we were out of the way the better. My advice is simple, normally you get good food and good service and chances are you probably will, but whatever you do be sure you plan your visit to arrive eat and be long gone before it gets near closing time.
I feel like buffets are kind of a risky venture for quality, in general, and certainly feeling comfortable in the post-pandemic world moreso. Happy to report i found this place to be pretty fantastic. The food all looked good and fresh (even the seafood!). It tried a lot of it and everything I had was pretty good. LOTS of options. Staff is friendly, attentive, and clean. Everyone working there had masks and gloves. I felt pretty comfortable eating there.
Very Good Service, Good Food. Short wait to be seated. Good salad. Good Hot & Sour soup. Good Tea. Lots of large juicy lemons available. Liked the sesame Chicken and General's chicken. Dissapointed in the brocalli chicken and brocalli beef. Tried one rib, not bad. There was tons of food. Nothing ran out.
We came on a Saturday night for dinner and it was busy but not too crowded. The food was hot and replenished frequently. A wide selection of sushi and seafood items as well as the usual chicken, beef, noodles, and rice. Overall a good pick!
Stopped in around 530 for dinner with grandkids. Very disappointing, had been coming on and off since opening. Was pretty good then went downhill. Tried again and was ok, it had been awhile so we stopped. Food was old, looked like leftover lunch. The sugar buns were dark brown and like rocks. Sat there the whole time we were there. Many chicken dishes dry and hard. Most dishes did not look appealing. The crab salad had an off flavor. Ridiculously the best thing on buffet was a baked ham and I don’t like ham. Spent a lot of money for little return. Time to find a new buffet.
I enjoyed the food there that was my first time there and there was an elderly couple sitting next to us and they look like they were enjoying their food as well taking their time with the food just as I did it's great service they were very clean and the hospitality was just wonderful. And the staff was very prompt and the waitresses paid attention to everybody removing any plates and glasses from each table as a customer's will go get more from the buffet so yes it was wonderful service there I've been in a restaurant business before and I know what it takes for a successful restaurant as far as I'm concerned this is a successful restaurant and I hope they continue to do well in the future.
friendly wait staff and a wide variety of food ?, loved the ambiance of the restaurant.
Another great restaurant in San Antonio that I found to be worth visiting. The place from the outside looks a bit rundown and needs sprucing up. But once inside it is clean, well lit and lots of space.. they have 3 dinning areas they sit you inThe main room has all the food you can eat. I have found very few all you can eat buffet's that I really like. But this place is the exception. The food is fresh, hot and taste great. There rotate the food regularly so it stays fresh. You have a great choice of foods from traditional Chinese food to sushi to what I call a hot grill. Where you pick the meats and veggies you want and they cool them right in front of you. The staff takes good care of you too, always cleaning off your table of used dishes and making sure you have enough refreshments. I found this place to be an excellent place to visit and eat at.
The staff was friendly and great customer service. The place was clean and CoVid. measures in place. The food was good but as far as a buffet they could have had a little more food choices. Those of us who frequent Asian buffets know crab legs are a real delight might have been a little disappointed with the time it took to restock them on the buffet. Overall I enjoyed my visit and the food was very good.
Staff was very rude. We were ignored the whole time we were there. Never refilled our drinks or took our empty plates. Eventually everyone in our sections started putting plates on clean tables. When I went to pay their card machine malfunctioned. The cashier says very loudly "maybe you don't have any money".I told him to run it again and it went through. No apology, just said "here" when he gave me my receipt. Will never go back there again.
