Yatai has a very comfortable quiet atmosphere inside reminiscent of some small hole in the wall places in Japan. Food was delicious! We had the curry Udon, squid salad, garlic edamame, korokke, chicken Katsu rice and tempura Udon. All food was finished! The wait staff is young and slightly inexperienced but everything was corrected with a smile when asked. Would recommend to the staff for them to try all their own food ask that can make recommendations to customers (or at least don't admit you haven't tried it lol. Very honest! :) ordered one curry udon to go and it was packed very nicely with the soup and noodles separate. Big portions also. Feels like a family owned restaurant so it was a nice change from those slick corporate restaurant chains. Definitely coming again!
Before I give my review, please know that we lived in Southern Japan for 2 years, so I am super picky about Japanese food. We like VERY traditional authentic food.I found Yatai online with good reviews, and after looking at the menu which had a number of items not available at other restaurants, we decided to give it a try.We ordered several appetizers including fried squid, squid salad and pork gyoza. The squid salad was spot on and wonderful. I highly recommend it. The gyoza was OK, not great. The fried squid was quite good. The Miso soup that came with our meals was very authentic and enjoyed. My husband and son enjoyed the Japanese beer offerings, and I had some of the best green tea I have had in years (most places water it down too much). For entrees we had the chicken curry, pork curry, and the beef sukiyaki. While both of the curries were good (but not the specific southern version I am craving), the beef sukiyaki was wonderful and deep with rich savory flavor. Next time we will try the tempura and ramen.Minor things to improve, if we could have had chopstick rests and small plates with the appetizers we shared. Better napkins would be much appreciated.Overall it was very good with a good value for the amount of food and drink we ordered. Service was very good. Please go and support them.
This place was awesome. The service my family and I received was excellent. The price was very fair and the food was so good, I had several members of the family requesting more. The next time I am that way, i will definitely hit this place up again.
I've been going here for years! While staff has come and gone quite a bit, the food has been really consistent! Ramen is fairly good, nice atmosphere at the bar seating. I always recommend the takoyaki, especially for first-timers, but mKe sure you ask for it to be ready before the food, as I've had them bring it out at the same time as the ramen on more than one occasion. Dig in, and slurp up!
Nice deco and good vibe for young adults. Simple menu but food is tasty.
Me and my wife came in a little late but they still served us with a smile and impeccable service. We both tried the chicken katsudon wich was amazing. I'll have to come back to try the Ramen but from what I can taste in the miso soup that comes with your dish it will be just as delicious as everything else was. Thank you keep up the great work
Looks great and the place was packed. Waited 30 mins for my food but the noodles arrived undercooked. It was still doughy biting into it. They fixed it, but it wasn't worth the 45 mins wait at that point. The servers are nice but the service was slow. By 8:40 PM the restaurant was half empty but we still waited 10 mins for them to pick up the check, but no one came. So we took it up instead because we needed to leave.
Absolutely great, loved the food and the staff is great, friendly, willing to go the extra mile. I definitely recommend this place.
My husband and I went here for a late dinner tonight. It was about 9pm. They close at 10 according to Google and their website. The waitress rushed us to order saying that they would be closing in 10 minutes. We ordered dumplings and 2 ramen dishes. The dumplings were ice cold in the middle. The ramens were room temperature. The noodles were under cooked. The meat was so tough that we had to pull it apart with our fingers. The egg was cold like it came out of the fridge. The broth had no depth of flavor. It tasted like store bought chicken broth. The waitress never checked on us. They turned their open sign off at 9:20 and brought us our check at 9:30 without asking us if we wanted anything else. The food was terrible and we didn't feel welcome there. We will never be back.
I had high hopes for this spot after seeing the reviews but the food here is subpar and inauthentic. Karaage is not crispy at all and comes with a side of tartar sauce. Flavors of everything we order was underwhelming and bland and does not taste like traditional Japanese. The service was slow and inefficient. First and last time for us to come here.
