Th El Fenix us nicely decorated, super friendly staff. The restaurant was clean and service was quick. I ordered "to go" but ate chips & salsa and drank ice tea while I waited. The chips were crispy, the tea was very good and the salsa was good too. However I was disappointed with the meal. I had the El Fenix meal, 1 cheese enchilada, 1 taco and 2 tamales with beans and rice. Also a queso dip with beef added. Good size portions and they sent lots of chips and salsa to go. Thanks for that! The taco was good. The beans were different and they were ok. The cheese enchilada was ok. The cheese dip was very bland, tasted like a mix or from a can. The tamales had a good flavor but the sauce on top was sooooo salty. I couldn't eat them.I maybe would give them another try but I would order different items.
I love El Fenix with all of my heart. The salsa is incredible. Their enchiladas are delicious. Also the chairs are like so comfy and great. I always order the puffy tacos (they are my favorite thing on the menu) and I pour salsa into them. Also- get the bean and cheese nachos!! They are simple but really good (especially if you dip them is the salsa). Overall, 5 stars no question :)
I just had an odd craving for our home town Mexican eatery. Not sure why really. No disrespect, but admittedly, the food is not rated beyond 2 stars. Once we ordered, our meal arrived in less than 60 seconds! What is that telling me? Prepped food for the masses, not intended to be gourmet, and I knew it going in. So, I'm not disappointed, rather confirmed that this is not a destination experience. Our server was on the cranky side too, which from my past experiences is not the usual.
Went to the Plano location on Feb 4th. Not sure if my son and I just went on a bad day but the queso was lumpy like a powdered gravy mix and barely cheesy in flavor. It was like a bowl of gelatinous snot. The salsa was watered down as well. My son loves the jarred El Fenix salsa from the stores but the restaurant version was nothing close to it. Our enchilada dinners were bland, rice was not fluffy but clumpy, beans seem dry. Wait staff seem new. Our waiter forgot my sons order and came back to the table to ask what it was. This was a huge disappointment since I raved to my son of how good El Fenix was (I went to the downtown location many times in the past) and he wanted to try the food himself. Obviously, he was very unimpressed. Maybe one day we will venture to the downtown Dallas location to try the food there but for now this experience requires multiple visits to other much better Tex-Mex establishment to compartmentalize away this awful experience. I only wish I had taken a picture of the snot queso so I could post it.
The guacamole was fresh, the Pico de Gallo was fresh, the service was good, the food was excellent. I'm glad we found it!
the BEST food in town. i took my family here when they visited from out of state and everyone loved it so much. priced well and the food is absolutely incredible! definitely would recommend the Botana Sampler as an appetizer and the sopapillas for dessert
We go to the El Fenix in Plano, TX at least once a week. It is such a pleasure to be served by a sweet, courteous lady -- her name is "Dang". She is older than most servers but honestly -- she works circles around everyone else who works there! She always refreshes our drinks without our having to ask -- also presents our delicious food with a smile! I have had various servers over the years at this Central Expwy, Plano location -- but from now on I will only sit in the section Dang has assigned. She is a keeper and a reminder that sometimes "older" is better!!!
Vegetarian review - not many options.Salsa was just okay. Chips were tasty. Queso was just okay.Ambiance seemed nice. Waiters were nice.
My wife and I ate at El Fenix Plano tonight. I wasn’t sure how the pandemic had effected their quality and perhaps their servers. Dang, our server immediately met us as we sat down with chips and salsa. I recognized her from before the pandemic. She has been at El Fenix a long time. She was very friendly and took our order for food and drinks quickly. She brought me one of the coldest beers I’ve had in a long time. The glass was so frosty, I was afraid my lips might stick. So the food was as great as always. My fears were put to rest. This El Fenix still has excellent food and service. Thanks, Dang.
Our waitress Dang is remarkable. She was so sweet, patient, and kind. We thanked her for doing such a great job. We never had to ask for refill. She was so humble. You have a great employee. We will come back because of how well we were treated. I told my husband he needs to tip her big. We appreciate this whole experience
