Went with the family for Sunday fried chicken dinner and it was delicious! Started with the simple, refreshing salad and then I ate the chicken breast. It was very moist and flavorful. The kids each had 2 pieces of chicken and so did my wife, everyone loved theirs. The chicken breast on the second round wasnt as moist as the first, but the first one was really hard to beat. The mashed potatoes, corn bread, and green beans were all very good. Probably could have skipped the cream corn, but i think it's just a different take than what we are used to. We finished off with ice cream (sans cobbler). All in all, great experience as always. We weren't in a hurry and understand staffing/labor issues, so we didn't mind if we had to wait an extra couple minutes for a refill... Because the place was hopping with the great live music on the outside patio (Poor J Brown trio). Lots of smiles and full bellies, thanks River House crew!
The hype to come here was pretty high!! Unfortunately, after visiting, it was somewhat of a let down. A group of us went for the Sunday Fried Chicken dinner. We knew going in that from 5pm - 7pm that’s all that’s on the menu.Starter is a salad with ranchEntree is all you can eat homemade fried chickenSides are cream corn, mashed potatoes, green beans and cornbreadDesert was a peach cobbler? with vanilla ice cream all for $26.95Two major issues was the service was atrocious!! Server was basically non existent. For some weird reason our table was neglected while others were being serviced. That was a head scratcher. Drinks were hardly ever filled and she RARELY came around at all.The second was the food. All of the sides came out cold. Generally, when I have sides like those they are at a minimum warm, and better yet hot! Not cold! That was a bummer. The fried chicken was definitely well done! A little too well done, and looked nothing like the pics I have seen online.I only gave two stars instead of one was due to the atmosphere. It’s a cool eatery in Gruene. The live music was really good. I will go back and try it again with a different entree, but never again the fried chicken which was what I was craving!!f
Wonderful restaurant with a beautiful outdoor setting. My husband and I sat outside and enjoyed the woodsy location and saw deer meandering nearby. We enjoyed a bottle of wine with our entrees, a juicy tender 8oz filet and the pasta/shrimp entree. We enjoyed another beautiful evening under the stars.
It’s called something else, but same spot. Bland food, and took almost 2 hours to get one appetizer and one entree for 2 people at a Sunday brunch, which wasn’t busy. go back to being a tea house.
All the times I've been to Greune, I never knew about this place. Came on a Sunday night for the all you can eat fried chicken. Probably the best I've ever had! I'd kill for the recipe! Same with the garlic mashed potatoes! The green beans were every good, but needed to be cooked a little longer for my taste. We took home what we couldn't finish and had it the next night. Need to come back to try the regular menu.
Everything we ordered was amazing!The chili was fantastic!The chicken fried chicken was huge!The farm pasta was great!The shrimp & grits were tender & creamy!I would also recommend the deviled eggs & corn fritters as appetizers.

Highly recommend! The atmosphere, hospitality, service, and food is all outstanding! I’ve always enjoyed each experience dining here and yesterday they went above and beyond for a large bachelorette party we had. Love this place and can’t wait to spend more special occasions here!
Wednesday night after Natural Bridge Cavern, our friends found this nice spot to eat in our way back to Austin. They seated us (4 kids + 4 adults) outside where we had a large space to ourselves. Kids got to coloring.Food is amazing. They were considerate and gave us extra customized deviled eggs so the kids could try it. The owner also came by to say hi. The waitress was so sweet. She brewed a fresh pot of coffee for my husband who had been driving all day.Perfect night. Wish we had found the place sooner, we would have happily spent hours there.Thank you for the hospitality ☕️
