I have been looking for decent Chinese food for months this place is great compared to surrounding places so far. The three things I look at most are the egg roll the wonton soup and the meal texture(meat and veggies). The egg roll was a no for me little disappointing but not why I’m here. The soup broth looked a little clear and as suspected kind of bland but salt pepper it was good had two bowls the noodle texture was great the meat was iffy. Now the meal I had the beef mixed veggies and I LOVED it the meat wasn’t chewy it didn’t dissolve plenty of gravy if the rating was just on the meal 5 stars.
My wife and I are new to the area and ordered from this restaurant after not being impressed with another nearby Chinese restaurant. NY Chinese Cafe was much better!I ordered the kung pao chicken dinner meal. The egg roll with the meal was flavorful and not overly greasy. The won ton soup was also delicious, with a hearty sized dumpling and tasty broth. The kung pao chicken was also great. The meat was seasoned to be just the right amount of spicy with fresh water chestnuts and peanuts that provided a nice crunch. The brown rice was nice and fluffy too. We will definitely be ordering from here again!
I lived in this area a few years. This was my go-to Asian night diner spot. This is one of the only things I miss about living in the area. I grew up in SW Houston, next to China Town. I am also a hard-core foodie! Growing up so close to the being able to choose from the most authentic Asian cuisine and having several friends that are Asian, my review of a quality Asian restaurant does not come lightly. This is a complex cuisine, and the 5-flavor complexity is not easy to master.NY Chinese Cafe has mastered my favorite dishes. General’s chicken is my go-to litmus test of any good Chinese food restaurant. The sauce is complex and not easy to master. NY Chinese Cafe Yen has mastered it indeed. In fact, they have gone above and beyond my standards with their Dragon & Phoenix dish. It’s absolutely A-MAZING! The cost of this café is above the standard, but the delight on my taste buds is also way above the standard. This was the first place I tried the Dragon & Phoenix dish. I was blown away. The spicy, sweet, sour complexity is a symphony on the taste buds.I eat a Whole 30 diet, so this was my “cheat night” food. But if I was going to splurge to treat myself on my “off” day from my diet, it was always NY Chinese Cafe! I especially loved to treat my family, my nanny & housekeeper to NY Chinese Café when they would come over to help with my baby & cleaning. After a day of hard work and me running errands, this was a nice treat. It was so funny how they would get full on a small portion of this dish and would save the rest. They are very generous portions.I also love to keep their containers. They are high quality and make great storage containers. I do not run them through the dishwasher but washing them by hand with antibacterial soap is a great way to reuse. They are good for many uses before needing to be recycled.
Absolutely amazing food, I love finding small places like this that have great service along with wonderful food.
I ordered steamed rice with chicken broccoli I don’t think that was chicken I was eating it was too gummy yuck so I changed my meat to beef & it had a weird smell & still was gummy ! I don’t know how ir what they put in their food but don’t wast me your hard earned money here

Clean restaurant; friendly service and delicious food!
Best Chinese Food Ever!!! The staff is super friendly. They really know the 3Ts , Taste, Texture, Temperature. Everything is made to perfection. Only place I’ll go in Houston.
Always a satisfaction to my appetite! I'm going to miss this place when I relocate.
I always order the Happy Family entrée with steamed rice because it is delicious (minus the imitation crab meat)!?
