Previously loved this restaurant and cleared my plate every time. Pengus recently sold this cafe and unfortunately it’s taken a very fast drop… I ordered the “Belly Bustin British Breakfast”. The mushrooms were SOLID.. like hard, overcooked pellets… Fried Bread was soggy and soft, eggs were overcooked. We also bought sausage rolls. Pastry was good, actual filling was like mushy, tasteless and very unpleasant. My wife ordered the Bangers and Mash, which was actually very good. The rest of the table, however, left still hungry and feeling relatively sick and disappointed after the food they received.Response to Owner:We came in on Father’s Day and the waitress explained how the cafe had been sold by Pengus recently to another English man and that Pengus cooks some Sunday’s. Honestly, I really loved this place and was disappointed to not only see the prices increase but the quality take a big dip. Perhaps it was an off day, and I hope it was.Wishing you all the best but unfortunately we will not be returning.Update to Owner Update:Ok, typically I’d leave it but it’s just a lie at this point. A brief bit of googling quickly shows that yes, the prices have increased as I previously mentioned. To name a few:Scotch Eggs:Previous: $9.00Current: $13.50Stuffed Crab Shells:Previous: $7.50Current: $11.00Fish and Chips:Previous: $12.50Current: $14.50Kebab:Previous: $8.50Current: $11.50I understand economy changes and produce price increases but just be honest about things instead of the backhanded apologies and snarky responses.

I had to leave a review because I am so very confused about the high rating. Everything we ordered had zero seasoning, not even salt. The first thing I grabbed were the fries because I was hungry and it had no taste, then I thought maybe they forgot to add salt but no, everything had no taste. The “British” breakfast was sloppy and burnt so there was that flavor, with beans that came right out of the can, Shepherd’s pie was super greasy with no flavor, and the fish and chips had thick pieces of fish but only tasted like grease and the fries were a combination of thick wedges and some other coated/battered fries at the bottom that looked like leftovers. And like another review said the mashed potatoes tasted like they just poured water on dry potato flakes, nothing else. The lack of any flavor or seasoning made us wonder, perhaps the British experience is supposed to be taking the food home and seasoning it yourself? I don't know, but never again. Not worth the drive or prices, and frankly would not want the food even if it is free. We ended up trashing everything after attempting to season it. Never have we ever had such flavorless and greasy food, it’s very confusing. The lady there was nice, so maybe the positive reviews are based on her. Sorry but this place wasn’t it. Total waste of money.UPDATE: Response to Owner's replyI know what black pudding is and I know burnt food when I see it and taste it. The black pudding was burnt like the toast you see next to it was too. Instead of being defensive with your smart comments, and blaming me for not eating my TO GO order on the spot so I could voice my opinion as you put it, keep my refund you’re offering and take it to the store and invest in some seasonings.

Great food excellent atmosphere will recommend to anyone. Went for daughter's birthday and wanted nicer than the typical chain restaurants and well worth the stop.

Having lived in the UK, the fish & chips were a good try, freshly cooked and attractive presentation. To get closer, if not on point, the fillets should be sliced just a bit thinner and let them come to room temperature prior to batter & fry - this sticks the coating closer to the fish and prevents it from delivering watery bites. Also, chips are closer to steak fries here, and crisp. Overall, 7/10 for the F&C, and I'll definitely be back to try out some more of my favorite Brit food not readily available here in Texas - good job folks!

We were a group of 3. At the hour we went wasn't busy. We ordered sausage and gravy biscuits to share. That was absolutely yummy, I definitely enjoyed that. For my main dish I got sausage, bacon and egg "burger" but there wasn't a burger? But it was still good and you can never go wrong with tots. My boyfriend got the British breakfast which came with beans, fried toast, blood sausage and eggs. He enjoyed his dish. My friend for a typical breakfast eggs, sausages, bacon and instead of home fries she did the tots as well. We would definitely come back again.

This place popped up on Google maps while the hubby and I were mapping the route to our hotel for a wedding in Magnolia. Had to be out at 11am, and I was really hungry for breakfast... a BIG breakfast! Pengus's did not disappoint. The owners were very nice, and we all had a laugh because they could tell we were newbies as we could not figure out how to get into the lot!!Our server was awesome, friendly, andinformative about the food.Hubby had eggs, sausage and chips (chips were perfect!), but I just HAD to have the Belly Bustin' British Breakfast. A true proper English fry-up, to be sure!! Eggs were perfectly over-easy, bacon and sausage were awesome, black pudding was great (first time trying that, and I'm no longer wary of it... the server said it's a mindset, and he's right!), and the baked beans... omg! I'll be buying British Heinz from now on!! Who needs all that sugary stuff?!Cute place, too! We were able to name all the penguins in the picture frame above our table... LOVED Lemmy Kilmister and who we believe to be Graham Chapman's King Arthur! Wonderful place to talk to people, great service, and awesome food! Hope we get back up that way again... REAL SOON! Thank you all for a fantastic experience❣❣

Charming restaurant with the MOST Delicious ? food! My husband loves the Scottish eggs. I love the savory spicy chicken sandwich that comes with one of kind fries, as well as the crisp chicken salad with there in house made Wasabi ranch dressing n for dessert was chocolate fudge cake (that is like a ganashe)...let's not forget about the Best service from a Delightful young woman and with majority of the people that work here are family n with head chef as the owner, with a sense of humor. They'll always continue to keep you coming back for more, then you can eat. If you stuff yourself, they will be than happy to provide you help out to the car with care ?

Extremely friendly, I went there for the first time and got the French dip, the meat could have been little less cooked(little dry) but it was still good. Bread was pretty soft. And the tots were good golden and crispy. Other then that. Nice little place.

Gravy made it awesome. Went on a Sunday. Got the roast plate. Gravy on everything. So good.

If only they had English beer!If chef Pengus McPengus added beer to his menu, I might buy a home within walking distance. Sure, the fish and chips are good but the shepherds pie is even better, and the steak pie is superb. And it’s pastry was among the best we’ve ever had. Not easy to access (slow down and be patient) and service isn’t fast, but WELL worth the wait. There’s no better “Brit food” anywhere around here.
