This place was a great find in a city far from home. The food was tasty, really I said, "This is so good!"My fiance and I stopped on the way back home from a trip to Galveston, we were looking for breakfast and I tend to use good ol' Google, pictures and reviews never lie. I found Red Oak Cafe. They certainly did not disappoint!I had bacon egg and cheese breakfast tacos with hash browns. Two tacos and they were huge, full of bacon egg cheesy goodness, more so rolled and lightly browned on the griddle so they were more like a burrito when served but still tasty! And the hash browns were great, a different style than you would get at an IHOP or waffle house but I liked them.My other half got the Messy Bowl. It was two biscuits, topped with hash browns, eggs, bacon, sausage and covered in gravy. He said it was "awesome"! He did his happy food dance, so....It had a nice interior and vibe. Macie waited on us, she was great and gave good recommendations too! Will definitely go back if we make that trip again. We failed to take pictures besides this one. The food was that good!! We just devoured it instead.
I called in an order for a "big breakfast" I asked to substitute French Toast for the pancakes and grits with cheese. When I get there, the hostess told be they put cheese in my hash brown's then asked if that was okay or if I wanted another order?!?! That's not what I asked for, of course I do! Then she acted like they were doing me a service "oh you got free hash browns". No I didn't because its not what i ordered. I figured if they noticed that, then I shouldn't have to check the order before I leave... I get home and no French Toast! They still gave me pancakes!!! I won't be back
We were seated at our table quickly and the server returned with our drinks right away. The menu is short on choices and does not address the wants and likes of small town people who want their usual down home breakfast. The regulars were greeted and seated very quickly. They did not wat for drink refills and were included in the conversations of the workers, while we were almost finished with our meals before we were offered drink refills. I will say that the orders were prepared and served with care and speed. When in the area, we will not return.
Red Oak is a breakfast staple in our house. The food quality is matched by great service and Texas pecan coffee!
Very very pleased! This is my first time. I don’t think I have ever been to such a well mannered and great service and great food! The Asian salad was the best I ever had anywhere! Everything we had was the best. Everything tastes homemade. Thank you to our server kassy. ❤️
Pretty terrible first experience here, and I won't be going back. The French toast was ice cold and pretty mediocre. The breakfast scramble and hashbrowns were good, but they forgot the soup with the sandwich sampler, and the strawberry bread tasted like cardboard. The food is extremely overpriced for the quality; just go to Waffle House. I also called for curbside as is advertised on their website, but they said they were "too busy" to bring it out. Kind of demoralizing when you're wearing pajamas and not expecting to have to go in.
Very relaxed atmosphere and excellent service. The portions were big, and so was the flavor. There are more than a few selections of coffee including a tasty dark roast. My son had the Big Breakfast and it was enough to feed 2 adults! I had the Hash since hash is my favorite thing to try at new places. The portion was good and the flavor was great, but it was mostly potatoes and I prefer hash with more protein. That's about the only thing I can say that's not in favor of this place, and why I only gave it 4 stars. I did see other entrees on other tables that looked really good, and my son and I will be back again to try more dishes!
We visited Red Oak Cafe this morning for our 1st time. It was a very awkward experience. For instance, there is a sign right when you walk in stating they have Holiday coffee flavors. I asked our waitress, Tisha, who said they sold out last weekend. Okay that’s fine, I get places run out of items…maybe take down the sign? Then we went to order and my husband and I started talking at the same time and he stopped and said “ladies first” and Tisha looked over at me with a surprised look and said “ladies?!”….it was extremely awkward, pretty sure she was trying to be funny…but it wasn’t. Then our food came out and went to the table beside us. Because they had set my husbands food down on the other table already they told us they would have his remade. Miraculously his food had been “remade” in less than 1 minute. My husband made the comment “well they cooked that pretty fast” and the waitress came back with the excuse the she “stole someone else’s food and it was our little secret”. We are not idiots, she clearly walked to the back and brought us back the original plate. She could had taken a little longer to at least pretend they were remaking his food. After the waitress lied to my husband about the food she never once spoke to him or looked his way. Just a really awkward experience for our 1st time and we will not be returning even though the food was pretty decent.
Pretty much always like my food here. Been a few times where its been better than other times but never had anything I didnt like. The blueberry-lemon pancake is amazing if you havnt tried it yet
Enjoyed a very good breakfast there it's best to come early and set up a waitlist placement. Worth the wait though.
