These comments made me very leery, but I am so glad I tried this place. Being from Southeast Alabama, I was looking for some good Southern food! I had the smothered pork chops, Mac and cheese, and cabbage. Absolutely no complaints there, but it was a little pricey. My son had some sweet potato pie. He said it was good, but soggy towards the end. The banana pudding was good. Now, there were a lot of complaints about the lady being rude. I did not experience that at all. In fact, she was very friendly over the phone, and engaged in conversation with me once I got there to pick it up. I think I called 2-3 times. Never rude!! I wanted meatloaf. She said they served that on Sunday, so we are on our way there now to try the meatloaf!!!I came back to change my 4 stars to 2. The meatloaf was horrible!!!! It didn’t look like ground beef and definitely didn’t taste like it, and it was really mushy. $35 for 2 nasty meatloaf plates…. Rip-off!!!!
The food was absolutely horrible! I decided to try the meatloaf and honestly I’m not sure what kind of meat it was. In no way did it appear to be ground beef. I asked for gravy on my rice (for both plates I ordered) and when I got home to eat neither plate had gravy. The mac and cheese had no flavor. I would not recommend eating here.
If you live in killeen txnever go here I tried to support a black owned business cuz i love todo that But never here againthere is a young lady that works here that is very rude to customers and when was asked to get a manager she said the manager is her grandmother and wouldnt bring herVERY POOR AND UNACCEPTABLE SERVICEYou will leave here upset and hungry wouldnt recommendLucky i cant give anything less than 1 star
The service was terrible
It's definitely a HARD pass. Why did they disrespect Alabama cooking like this? Hopefully I can upload pictures. We ordered a fish platter and just know, 1 piece of fish is HALF of a filet. It was over fried and rock hard, we ended up throwing away about an inch off of each side of our halved filets! Terrible. Those aren't candied yams... just NO! Under cooked and the seasoning was off. Tasted like boiled sweet potatoes with lots of honey. We also ordered a chicken and rice. The chicken was tasty but, YOU, Sir/Ma'am reading this review, go to HEB or your local grocery store and buy a roasting chicken. 2. Clean it and put some season all, and put it in a baking pan and cover it with some "Cream of Chicken" and bake it... same thing here, save your money. The greens were acceptable. Macaroni and cheese is very unseasonably bland.THEN to sum all of this up, the customer service had the nerve to be bad too. My Husband, being from Alabama, found this place and was excited to support the business. I regretted that I was too tired to cook for my family on this day because, the way this woman spoke to my husband over the phone made me want to hop in my car and come up there to find her myself. Save yourself the disappointment, disrespect and your hard earned money.
Love this place. Best soul food in the city
This was probably the worst dining experience I have ever had. I simply asked to see how much the food was (each item) before paying and wasn't told that my food wouldn't be made until after I paid until almost an hour and 20 mins later. The owner was extremely rude when I only asked for clarification and said she was showing "southern hospitality" by letting us sit down. We did NOT know they were not allowing people to sit down and what does that have to do with me asking for itemized prices of the food being that there were no prices listed anywhere. The food was also not worth the $50 dollars we paid for 2 meals and a kids meal that was $10.00 for 2 wings. I will most certainly not be back.
Best home cooking experience. Must go to this hidden gem.
Checked out another soul food restaurant today that was pretty good. It's called sweet home Alabama. Now being from Georgia myself it took a minute for me to give them a try. It's a roll tide against bulldog rivalry thing. But the owner is not a roll tide fan but a auburn tiger fan enough said?? I tried the smothered porkchop with rice ,fried okra and Mac and cheese everything except the Mac and cheese was slamming. It seemed like the Mac and cheese was baked with flour, wasn't that tasty to me but it wasn't too bad someone else's taste buds may feel different. hence the 4.5 stars instead of 5. I highly recommend you try them out you will be pleased. Keep in mind though some of the items on thier menu are only served on certain days. In the end though it was good service and good food. Give them a try.??
