Saturday June 25th at about 1:00pm a friend and I walked into Ava's.There was a women behind the desk taking a order over the phone. A man was off to the right reading the menu. We waited for about ten minutes. Within this ten minutes we were not acknowledged, with a hand wave, a "good afternoon" nothing. We still stand and wait because I was craving jerk chicken. It was then we all heard the woman behind the counter on the phone say "Well I got folks looking upside my head right now". We all turned around and walked out, included the man that had already been there waiting and reading the menu. I will not spend my money nor my time in a place where this is the attitude; nor would I recommend anyone else to do so. I am disappointed and exhausted with this kind of behavior.
Just moved to the area and wanted some Caribbean food. Being from Miami and born and raised in a Caribbean household I was very disappointed with the food. I got brown stew chicken. The chicken was very very salty. The gravy did not taste like brown stew gravy at all. The rice was very old and hard you can tell it was warmed up and not fresh. I asked for a side of plantains and was told I was only allowed to get 2 with my meal due to shortages with plantains. My meal was about $13 and change and I was very dissatisfied and honestly I will never ever be back nor refer anyone to eat at this place. Definitely not good Caribbean or Jamaican food at all.
Customer service and the Food was Truly Amazing and Blessing for me.Every Item I tasted literally brought me to an happy emotional moment.I had the Large Oxtails with Rice and Peas,Plantains , cabbage with a Mashup Natural Mango juice.Amazing Meal.I also ordered the small Beef stew chicken with rice and peas,cabbage ,plantains and I Tried the Mashup Natural Strawberry delight, Passion Fruit and Sorrell juices that meal was delicious ,moist I loved it.I highly recommend this Amazing Caribbean Restaurant they explained the specific meals I should try and eat for a person in my condition.Thanks so much see you all Friday.Have a blessed God Filled Day
Ignore my white rice.Everything else was from Ava'sThe Lamb Curry, Chicken Curry, and Jerked Chicken. A little cabbage and the PLANTAINS?? ? ?.Let me just say I do doordash and the smell of this restaurant brought me back.I'm in love. This place is amazing friendly service as a dasher and customer.I wanted to try the oxtail but they were out. That's okay cause I'm going back anyways.?Everything was so amazing!!! Probably a new favorite.Thankyou guys!
Tried Ava's finally.....Have to say I wasn't too impress with the food. I tried the curry chicken and chicken with brown sauce. The food wasn't bad but had no or very little seasoning. Also the way they cut up the chicken to make it seem like you have a good size serving of meat gave me issues to. I couldn't really enjoy the chicken because I had to watch out for small pieces of bone that could have got lodged in my throat. So in other words it wasn't a good experience for me. Wanted to try the ox tail but they were out so hopefully the next time I visit I'll be able to try that dish. I'm torn on recommending them to try, because sometimes a restaurant can have a bad day. But at this time I can't recommend them but if you had a better experience with other items on their menu let me know and I will give it a try.
I have been going to this restaurant for a couple of years now and love that its very close to my house but today was the selling point on me not returning. Over the course of a couple of months, I've noticed that the portions were progressively getting smaller, and the quality of the food was beginning to go down as well. The only thing I order from here is the Large Oxtail with rice and peas. It is one of my favorite dishes and this place normally makes it the best. On the other hand, today was awful. I normally get a good size portion of oxtail that's covered in gravy and rice, that is cooked to perfection. Today I got home, and I had 3 tiny pieces of oxtail that had absolutely no gravy on it, and rice and peas that were extremely dry. This is one of the more extreme issues I’ve had, but not the only one over the past couple months.
I just moved around the corner so this place is closer to me than the one I normally go to. They taste good but it’s always hot or miss. The oxtails are not always soft and the gravy is ALWAYS different. That’s the annoying part. I just wish they are consistent on flavors and cooks. The oxtails I received today do not taste Caribbean at all! Very disappointed
Stopped in today and got jerk chicken w yellow rice and curry chicken w white rice and both were amazing!!! Also huge portions (I did get a large but for only 10 bucks a pop I’ve been full for so long!!! Definitely worth it). Plantains and cabbage were also on point. Will definitely be back ???
Food is delicious but the atmosphere was a little intense. The owner or manager guy seemed very uptight and yelling at the server about some plantains or something. The food is worth it but I don't recommend dining in.
Solid jamaican food. Anyone complaining about customer service definitely hasn't been to Jamaica outside of a resort ?. I went when I believe the father made food and it was so well seasoned and the rice and cabbage were made really well. Best I've had I'm ce trial texas so far!
