Someone suggested this place and we went for it . Ordered the fried avocado and it was awesome. Also had the chicken fried steak and it was good but not all that exciting. The atmosphere was really cool. We will probably stop there on our next trip to the hill country .
Would be a less stars if the server wasn't so nice. Arrived an hour after advertised opening time and the lights were off and the AC was only just being turned on, during a heatwave in Texas. They came and turned on the lights after a while. It was almost too hot to stay, but we had heard good things about the food. Originally we were told they were out of turkey and bread, then they came back and said the guy just got here with the delivery. The turkey BLT was good, but avoid the chicken fried steak at all cost. It was bland and breaded in who knows what but it definitely was NOT chicken fried. The side of green beans was more like tomato soup with green bean toppings. From what I have experienced and reports from other locals it is best to avoid this place during the lunch hours and only brave it at popular dinner times when the employees actually seem to care about the quality of the food they are serving.
Almost a perfect meal. The Avocado fries is a delicious monstrosity of things you would never dream would work together but they are incredible. The bacon wrapped pork loin in the delicious glaze with the cream corn flan is Amazing. So I was so excited to see creme Brule on the menu (one of my absolute favorite deserts). I'm sad to say even though it was pretty. It fell flat. It was watery, lumpy, even some ingredients not mixed very well and last the top was over done to the extent it was burnt. However I believe the meal and appetizer overall made it so I was only a little sad. I will definitely come again.
So freaking good!!! The avacado fries were so yummy. Hubby got the fish dinner. Very impressed as it was 4 good size pieces. Waitress was very sweet and accommodating. Chef did a great job.

Highly recommend! We split a few different items on the menu. Everything is from scratch. Avocado Fries were excellent.
I got the hamburger steak. FANTASTIC. It came with green beans and mash taters and gravy. Delish. Quite possibly the best gravy in Texas. Beans were amaze. Literally the best hamburger steak I've ever had. Can't wait to go back.

Beautiful setting for a restaurant. Set in a former opera house/ hotel. Beautiful Tiffany glass bar and counter with old- time stools. My half- chicken dinner was delectable with sautéed squash and mushrooms and a grit cake! Friendly service at the bar.
